2023: Your Successes and Failures

My mum is 83, has PD and dementia.

Successes

1. Constipation and digestive issues very much helped with the addition of Motilitone, a prokinetic. Once a day or every other day now. No strain. Zero stress around the issue now. Previously, there was a great deal. Abdominal pains have gone. (We continue to use 200mg mag citrate, Macrogol, 500mg vit c. Mag citrate dose reduced from c 500mg)

2. Sleep has improved with the introduction of melatonin (3mg) and homotaurine (50mg) 2 or 3 hours before bed. (Mum also takes Mirtazapine 30mg but has done for years.) Pretty common for her to sleep right through now. Previously, disturbed nights ( principally dementia confusion) were the norm.

Failures

1. Cue1. Made zero difference and its presence became a source of agitation for mum.

2. Transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation. Using a TENS machine with an ear clip on the tragus. Zero impact good or bad.

thank you for that information, my father suffers daily from constipation and it disturbs him most of his day. Right now he takes lactilose, movicol and magnesium oxide. He feels like he needs to run to the bathroom all day but nothing comes out. Yesterday he had colonic irrigation and they said he has a hernia which chould be making his constipation worse. Im curious about the supplements your mother takes.

he also wakes up 3 times a night to use the bathroom, we've tried melitonin but he said it kept him more awake. Shame

There are lots of posts on constipAtion on this site. We’re using probiotics and FOS or inulin to good effect.

Hubby's neurologist had suggested kimchi, sauerkraut, yogurt, prunes for constipation.

Too bad the Cue1 didn't work for your Mom. Not available yet here in the US, on waiting list.

Haven't heard of Motilitone, will have to look this up. There is only so much kimchi and sauerkraut one can eat! Does eat yogurt every day.

Thanks for posting.
