The "UP-study" phase 2 trial of UDCA Co funded by Cure Parkinson's led by Prof Oliver Bandmann

This looks pretty interesting. UPRDS results did not show any benefit, but UPRDS seems to be like measuring ants using a yardstick.

They did show gait speed improved in the test arm, and also showed a significant change of Gibbs free energy of ATP hydrolysis.

The dosage was 30 mg/kg, so 70 kg = about 2 grams a day. We can't get UDCA. Is TUDCA close enough?

Cool. How much do you take? For how long? Do you think it is helping?

I take 2 pills AM and 2 pills PM for a total of 1,000mg. TUCA by BodyBio.

(Dr also has me taking Butyrate if that is interesting to you.)

as with most supplements, the benefit is unknown. however, i do feel I'm doing very well at 9 years into my PD diagnosis.

Thanks! Yes, the Butyrate part is interesting too. I saw something on Butyrate plus Tudca (I think).

If I may continue to pry: How long have you been taking Tudca and Butyrate, and... do you feel that your progression has stopped or slowed since you did start Tudca and/or Butyrate?

Also: what brand of butyrate please?

Butyrate is also by BodyBio, 2AM, 2PM total of 2.4g The butyrate bottle is called Calcium/Magnesium/Butyrate. Not sure why it includes calcium and magnesium.

I started both in Jan 2023. I have no clue if it slowed my progression, it definitely has not stopped my progression. But, as I said above, doing well 9 years into my diagnosis and my doctors feel I'm doing better than the avg bear. (Can't measure exercise either.)

If you have a functional medical person as 1 of your supports, they often have access to an on-line supplement site that typically has prices cheaper than amazon. But need to be referred by a medical professional to create an acct.

Study here: movementdisorders.onlinelib...

"Sensor-based gait analysis indicated a possible improvement of cadence (steps per minute) and other gait parameters in the UDCA group compared to placebo."

"Following commencement of treatment with UDCA, marked enrichment for UDCA and its conjugates glycoursodeoxycholic acid (GUDCA) and TUDCA compared to baseline were found at all visits during the treatment period. "

So FWIW some UDCA got converted to TUDCA.

OTOH: "MDS-UPDRS-III scores in the practically defined “OFF” state improved from baseline to week 48 by a mean of 1.68 points (95% CI 4.90, 1.53) in the UDCA group and by 5.2 points in the placebo group (95% CI 9.82, 0.58) with a mean difference between UDCA and placebo of 3.52 (95% CI 1.83, 8.86, P = 0.1844). "

Gait does look better in test group
