Great video on healing a "leaky gut" and I found this probiotic to be the best deal on Amazon!

For myself ... I believe my PD-like symptoms is from my "leaky gut".

And, fortunately after more than 2 years of self-diagnosis --- my various symptoms are still very, very, very mild.

My neuro/MDS is Dr. Bozo who said after my exam: "The good news is that you don't have Parkinson. The bad news is that you don't have Parkinson."

Yeah. He. Really. Said. That. (without an explanation!)

Anyway, like most of you --we do EVERYTHING we can to stop -- slow down -- or reverse our symptoms.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I watch/ listen to/ and skim DOZENS of health videos weekly ... So I just stumbled on this excellent video (except for his negative comment about functional/ integrative medicine prescribing too many tests...).

Best of all, he did a meta analysis of 26 probiotic studies conducted my the NIH/ PubMed.

BOTTOM LINE: Of the gillions of different strains of probiotics the TWO that STOOD OUT as most effective in HEALING a "leaky gut" were:

Blended strains of Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus.

So I just did my due diligence and RESEARCHED HEAVILY the best brand on Amazon ...

Don't be fooled by the GIGANTIC COST of other brands... They don't have the following:

1. It must be soil-based probiotics.

2. They must contain strains of Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus.

3. I could not find "MADE IN USA" so the 2nd best marker to look for is to have the label read:

"GMP" (Good Manufacturing Process).

This Swanson product contains wheat. Personally, as a High School Graduate who graduated in the top two thirds of his class, that PD is autoimmune and all autoimmune folks should go gluten free.

You can get Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus in:

Dr. Matthew Best Probiotic Supplement with Prebiotic. Lactobacillus Rhamnosus, Lactobacillus Gasseri, Plantarum, Casei & Reuteri. Bifidobacterium longum, infantis & lactis. 15 Strains. 50 Billion CFU amazon.com/gp/product/B06XK...

Please see my post: Dr Matthew Best Prebiotics and Probiotics for Women healthunlocked.com/cure-par...

Dr Matthew Best Prebiotics and Probiotics for Women has the 4 strains of probiotics that were used in this study that showed an improvement in UPRDS scores: Clinical and metabolic response to probiotic administration in people with Parkinson's disease: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial 2019 core.ac.uk/download/pdf/196...

The 4 strains used in the trial were Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus reuteri, Bifidobacterium bifidum, Lactobacillus fermentum.

dr matthew is made with "palm oil" -- very inflammatory... and there is no "GMP" on the label

i'll continue my research on Amazon and update

As a HS graduate, the jury may still be out on Palm Oil: Balancing functional and health benefits of food products formulated with palm oil as oil sources ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

"Conclusion: PO is rich in saturated fatty acids and has a higher stability than other processed oils, which could extend its shelf life. PO is frequently used because it can be fractionated into POl and PS using fractional crystallization, and the fractionated products have distinct fatty acid and TAG profiles. Hence, this study focuses on the impacts of various fractionation conditions on RPO, POl, and PS, as well as their applicability in the food business. Despite having roughly equal amounts of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids, apparently the unsaturation of PO at the sn-2 position does not raise cholesterol levels, resulting in cardioprotective benefits. At the same time, biochemical compounds like tocopherol and tocotrienol could potentially prevent diseases like cancer and diabetes by providing antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, and antithrombotic capabilities. However, further in vitro research is needed to determine the influence of PO use on consumer health."

Regardless, as Palm Oil is the second to last ingredient listed, I am thinking it is a tiny tiny tiny amount.

PDWarrior1900 in reply to Bolt_Upright

all seed oils are very toxic and poison ... stay away from them! (no matter how "tiny" the amount may seem... it tells you the manufacturer is looking for the CHEAPEST way (not the "best most healthful way") to make his product

check this one out... so far it is the ONLY one that meets all my requirements:

1) MADE IN THE USA

2) GMP certified

3) 15 strains of the 'good bifo and lacto'

The one thing that concerns me is that it doesn't list the 'NOs' like other bottles do ...

NO wheat, dairy, soy, gluten, etc

And its potency is way beyond what the DC recommended in the video...

This probiotic has 70 billion CFUs in one dose!

Of course you can take just '1 capsule' and cut that in half ... Which is STILL '5' times more CFUs daily than suggested in the video

According to the Dr. Matthew Best product information: "THEY COLONIZE YOUR WHOLE GUT, NOT JUST A PART OF IT

Our BIO-tract controlled release technology makes our probiotics time released, which means your gut is supplied with beneficial flora continuously throughout the day.

Also, as the controllably disintegrated tablets travel inside your gut, they release the good bacteria exactly where you need them: deeply into your small and large intestine, across your whole gut—not only at the beginning of it as in most other formulations which lack the delay release effect."

I do like the idea of adding soil based probiotics! Should You Switch to a Soil-Based Probiotic? grassrootsfunctionalmedicin...

(but one without wheat).

Bolt_Upright profile image
Bolt_Upright in reply to Bolt_Upright

MAYBE I DON'T LIKE SOIL BASED :(

Per Dr. Matthews Best:

SAFE – DERIVED FROM HUMANS, NOT SOIL

Dr. Matthew #1 Probiotic supplement contains only human strain probiotics. That means, all 15 strains are natural, safe residents of the human digestive tract. Other probiotic supplements contain Soil Based Organisms (SBO). These tiny dirt dwellers come from the ground and are not naturally found in your body.

Why is this a problem? SBO are not a part of the symbiotic relationship that keeps our immune systems strong. Therefore they are foreign microbes that can become pathogenic especially in people with a compromised immune system. Yet, many probiotic supplements include SBO (i.e Bacilli genera). This is because SBO form spores which have naturally an amazing shelf life as they are resistant to heat, gastric acids, and even antibiotics, giving probiotic sellers a strong marketing proposition! But this spore-forming ability of SBOs is exactly what makes SBO infections so incredibly difficult to treat!

Don’t fall for the marketing pitch. Make sure you buy only human strain probiotics.

Who to trust? Sticking to Dr. Matthew Best for now.

i suggest you watch the video i posted

the DC did a meta analysis of 26 probiotic studies from the NIH

#1 winner was "soil based probiotics" for the most gut healing...

and look for a brand that has more than '4' strains ...

that's why i loved swanson (at first) because it has '13' strains of bifo and lacto

Bolt_Upright profile image
Bolt_Upright in reply to PDWarrior1900

Dr. Matthew Best has 15 strains. Yes, I watched the video. I missed that part. I will watch it again.

PS: I do not own stock in Dr. Matthew Best and am not endorsing it. Just sharing information.

PDWarrior1900 profile image
PDWarrior1900 in reply to Bolt_Upright

'15' strains of ... 'what'?

again the reason I (formerly) chose swanson is that 100% of the strains (13) were of bifo and lacto

I don't trust ANY of the vitamin manufacturers ... They're crooks!

------------------------------

But I'm still taking 30 - 40 supplements day hoping that at least '1' is helping and I 'am' feeling MUCH BETTER the last 2-3 weeks! The visible tremors in my hands are ... gone!

Who knows why I'm doing better ... so I just keep doing what I'm doing ....

------------------------------------------

As for vitamins, I look for this 'GMP' on the label of any vitamin. And if possible... I always buy... MADE IN THE USA

GMP
Bolt_Upright profile image
Bolt_Upright in reply to PDWarrior1900

I used to have a, very rare occasional, tremor in my left hand. It has been gone for at least 3 months. And it used to be when it did not tremor, it still felt like it could. Like it was not solid (if that makes sense), but now the hand feels solid and in control.

(Please don't jinx myself, please don't jinx myself, please don't jinx myself).

PDWarrior1900 profile image
PDWarrior1900 in reply to Bolt_Upright

well that's great news!

PDWarrior1900 profile image
PDWarrior1900 in reply to Bolt_Upright

also, one of the most important things i learned on that video is that you only need about 5 billion CFUs daily ... and for only 2 - 3 months! ... No other source told me that before ... I'm thinking that probiotics has to be a "permanent" part of my stack ... Not anymore!

PDWarrior1900 profile image
PDWarrior1900 in reply to Bolt_Upright

READ the "fine print" on the labels and you can see what CROOKS they are!

the "fine print" says... "domestic AND imported ingredients"

so it could contain 1% sourced in the USA and (probably) 99% sourced in China or India where they have practically NON-EXISTENT health inspections/ regulations!

So BEWARE what you are swallowing!

-------------------------------------------------

NOT made in the USA
PDWarrior1900 profile image
PDWarrior1900 in reply to Bolt_Upright

I found the WINNER (after 3 hours!) And I just created a new post, but for your benefit here it is:

---------------------------

First, I don't believe in "vitamins" but I still take about 30+ supplements daily.

But since I'm "holding back" bad PD symptoms (I'm not officially DX'd) ... with a variety of stuff (vigorous exercise ... today is day $523 of O.M.A.D. ... I've given up just about everything: gluten, dairy, starch, sugar, ultra-processed foods, etc.) ....

What the hell... I just spent at least 3 HOURS on Amazon going through each of their more than 200 probiotic products and only '1' ... meets these 4 criteria:

1. MADE IN THE USA

2. CERTIFIED ORGANIC

3. SOIL-BASED ORGANISMS (on the label it reads: SBO PROBIOTIC = soil-based organisms)

4. Manufactured in a "GMP" facility in the USA.

The price is damn reasonable, too!

Especially because you only need to take '1' (don't take the recommended '2' capsules) to get 25 billion CFUs ... which is still 5X more per day than recommended in video posted below.

So it's just 12 bucks a month!

Careful about which bacterial strains and species you supplement with.I read that the average person with Parkinson's has a gut microbiome already in dysbiosis with too much Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus.

By supplementing these two you might be making things worse.

PDWarrior1900 profile image
PDWarrior1900 in reply to freefallmode

do you have any links for that please?

freefallmode profile image
freefallmode in reply to PDWarrior1900

I can't remember where I originally came across that (an article or research paper about a year ago?), but a quick search for a PD microbiome meta-analysis pulls up this article where a chart shows the relative abundance of various bacteria in PwP vs. controls.

nature.com/articles/s41531-...

(from nature.com/articles/s41531-...

"Our results indicate a higher abundance of the genera Lactobacillus, Akkermansia, Hungatella, and Bifidobacterium in PD gut microbiome. Interestingly, Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium have been reported to be enriched in the gut of CD patients, and this increase coincided with a decreased abundance of Faecalibacterium sp41, similarly to what we have observed in PD. These taxa are commonly considered to be beneficial bacteria, and whether they are influencing PD or are simply well adapted to thrive in a pro-inflammatory gut environment remains to be elucidated. "

I wouldn't trust his products.

I know I posted his video (which was great) -- but that was BEFORE I learned he's also selling his own line of vitamins.

1. You, I, or a trained monkey could be an Amazon seller of vitamins -- tomorrow!

All you have to do is buy the ingredients from any of tens of thousands of labs worldwide... Then hire a designer to create a nice label.

Bingo! You're in the vitamin selling business!

2. I just posted this below in reply to another member regarding her recommendation of a probiotic website:

-------------------------------------------------

I just checked that website and it FAILED MISERABLY to list the '4 criteria' needed for me (or anyone here) to buy this product:

1. This product is NOT .... "MADE IN THE USA"

2. This probiotic does NOT have ... soil based organisms (per the video recommendation above)

3. This product was not manufactured in a certified "GMP" (Good Manufacturing Process) facility. Very very very few vitamin products go to that safety and health protocol to ensure the BEST product that we have to SWALLOW!

4. This product FAILED to show the label on the bottle so we can determine "source" and "strength" etc of the ingredients.

p.s. pretty website design! but as the famous P.T. Barnum used to say:

"A sucker is born every minute... And two to take him!"

-------------------------------------------

Nowhere on Dr. Ruscio's website did I see his products were: "MADE IN THE USA."

(that does NOT guarantee legitimacy but it HELPS!)

Please look above at the image of one of his products. It shows a list of this vitamins "qualities/ features."

Can you 'READ' it?

I can't, either.

VERY SUSPICIOUS when a "website" whose purpose is to SELL its products FAILS to fully and clearly disclose those features.

So... BUYER BEWARE!

I investigated pro and prebiotics a couple of years ago. My HWP took biokult mind and when nothing changed I looked into and researched many of the ingredients in the pills. Inulin, a fibre produced from chicory roots was in many of them. Many of the other pro biotics as mentioned above were also in Kefir, Kimchi and other foods.

I bought organic powdered inulin, also found a good Kefir and added to my and my husbands diet. At least no more pills! Seems to suit my husband, not so many gut issues like constipation.

What about PS128 Probiotic?

PDWarrior1900 profile image
PDWarrior1900 in reply to Blondchk

i have no idea about that product

My "rules" for buying vitamins:

1. must be MADE IN THE USA

2. I verify that by contacting the company and asking this:

"What percentage of your ingredients are sourced entirely within the USA?"

If they even reply to that... the answer is almost always: "We have to check and we'll get back to you."

And. They. Never. Do

3. Make sure the bottle is labeled: "GMP" (special designation of manufacturing that very few companies do because it is expensive: "Good Manufacturing Practice"

4. ORGANIC if at all possible
