I’m 60 now but a guy so I’m still prone to daft things like buying Microsoft Flight Simulator. I flew a 747 the other day and blimey did it let me know when I tried a questionable manoeuvre. Red lights, Commercial Airliner Crash Warning sirens etc. Well it’s sort of a metaphor for me currently. Some of you might know that I had a foot operation about 7 weeks ago and with no exercise i feel like dying. I really do. So I tried the bike this morning and managed 4 m, then had to rest, then 3m etc. i was exhausted and couldn’t do any more. Then did press ups but after 20 realised I’d somehow burnt up my morning dopamine. Wow. Astonished how weak I feel. My plan: try again tomorrow, do some juicing. Anybody ever found themselves in similar position? Thanks in advance and if you’re a believer, say one for yours truly 🙏😊

Big, big trouble Houston
At the times when I have been forced off my exercise regimen I have had to fight my way back to baseline when I resumed. It is really scary, plus it is very hard work. In my experience, hang in there and keep at it and you will recover.
What foot operation did you have Jeeves?
My hubby needs a foot op but keeps putting it off. Im also worried how I would look after him during his recovery whilst I am still working. Wow 7 weeks.......that is a long time. Hope you get back to full fitness soon. My hubby is in too much pain to be able to exercise unfortunately
2 toes fused Gerry 😩
I used to fly the MS Flight Simulator on a system with a VGA monitor. I didn't know that they still make it.
I had a customer who had SGI workstations for designers. When we met in his office, I would fly the SGI Flight Simulator on their monster server and use a large display. It was really fun. I tried acrobatics in the 747.
We got some funny looks from people walking by my friend's office!
As for exercise, I would try a different one. My wife does a lot of chair yoga. YouTube is your friend. Look for something and then start slow for a small amount of time. My wife has one replaced knee and one that is bone-on-bone. I attend the meetings with her surgeon. They both agree that slow recoveries are best, and most people try to do too much too soon and end up worse.
Cheers,
Bert
Hi Jeeves. Im sure is a silly question and i dont know if you have stiches, cast or anything preventing it but...what about water exercice? Its low impact, gentle and keeps you moving...you could build up from there gently...
Thanks. That’s my wife’s world unfortunately (private health club with pool 😂). I’m definitely on the mend now but the episode seems to have put me squarely in the jaws of PD. My insomnia is awful recently and I’ve tried lots of herbal and pharmaceutical options which seem to have run out of gas. When I DO manage a good nights sleep I feel so much better but when I have a bad night - which appears to be becoming the norm - I’m exhausted the next day and find its challenging to embark on any vigorous exercise. But had a first appointment for DBS today. Went well. A giant step but unsure if there are many other options at present.
Hi jeeves,
Previously I had an extended hospital stay where all I did was lay in bed and walk about 8 steps to the bathroom and then sent home for bed rest. By the time I finally was able to move around regularly, I thought it would be a good idea to get back to my morning brisk walks.
I started out as I usually do and didn't feel too bad, but when I got to a mile and a half, I was walking on a downward incline which I had previously not really noticed, but that incline got me going a bit faster and before I realized what was happening, I was falling /tripping forward. At that point I knew I was about to face plant so I pushed off while my feet were still touching the ground and dove forward to try and spread the impact more evenly with the concrete. The dive saved me from another hospital trip, but that experience impressed upon me just how quickly your muscles atrophy or deteriorate when you do not use them regularly. I had to be more careful for about a month after that fall to make sure I didn't have another accident while walking briskly. I finally got back to my normal, but that was much harder to do than I had anticipated.

I can relate. Im 8 weeks post back surgery. My second one. I was not exercising for at least 3 months leading up to it and 6 weeks after. I felt really out of shape! But this week I managed to walk 2 miles on 2 different days, relatively briskly, too. For me, at least! A sublingual B-12 supplement really helped perk me up. Still have much room to improve, if thats even possible at this stage of the game. Only thing is, every time I stop to rest on my walks, people stop to ask me if Im OK, and look at me like theyre thinking of calling an ambulance!
Hope you're doing well, friend! I know this post is old, but I havent been around as much as I used to be.
It's a year later but I did, Jeeves19... Hope you are doing better now. Blessings to you and yours
