Time of day of photobiomodulation (aka red light therapy, low level laser therapy, LLLT) treatments for vision alters efficacy

A recent study found that deep red light exposure to the retina improved vision in a human study - but only if applied in the morning, not in the afternoon. Amazingly, the effects of a single 3 minute session lasted a week.

Am wondering if circadian timing of photobiomodulation treatments in general including those used for PD impacts efficacy.

At least some part is related to circadian rhythms. Red light is greatest at sunrise and sunset, so morning benefit makes sense. The red light energy can be used by mitochondria to “energize” their function, so that should be beneficial to retinal cell function. The Retina cells utilize large amounts of energy for their function, which is why there are so many mitochondria in the retina.
