Metyrosine (Demser) - Jonathan Sackner-Bernstein, he has a completely new approach - see article...

He is preparing a study with Metyrosine (Demser). It will start with a low dosage (well below 250mg) and then be increased.

However, only people with Parkinson's who are not yet taking L-Dopa are allowed to take part.

What do you think? Interesting?

I guess I am not surprised that it will be those who are not yet taking medication because I have seen other clinical trials that were set up this way with the idea that symptom progression could be reduced at the least.

So are the trials going to start soon and where will they be conducted?

Hopefully, they were not planning to do so in the USA.

The article was discussed 8 months ago, Tom. At that time, RB-190 was mentioned. Demser is another name for the same medication Metyrosine, that contains the active ingredient methyldexamfetamine.

Are there any new developments to report since then?

This was a super interesting article. I had heard of this hypothesis before but did not realize that they had gone as far as designing a trial. Using Metyrosine to reduce the dopamine buildup sounds so simple. Also, that this could possibly roll back symptoms; Fascinating!

Certainly paradigm-shifting if it is found to be effective.

Funding for his proposed trial was a major blocker, but I guess this paper was in part design to provide a stronger theoretical underpinning to his rationale to help gain the required financial support.

I hope his proposed trial gets off the ground. Has anyone heard of any news relating to sourcing the required funds?

probably needs a rich benefactor not constrained by profit motive or subject to charitable justifications. If we’re honest, conventional science and a conservative approach to research has not really got us anywhere closer to the breakthrough we all want, in the last many years, so left field ideas definitely have a place.
