If you are taking many of the ingredients individually why not try switching to Hardys with extra vitamers at least for a trial to see if it makes a difference to you.
“In giving nutrient intake guidelines, the U.S Institute of Medicine makes it clear that the balance of ingredients in supplements is critical. They state that an imbalance in the intake of two or more nutrients can have a diverse array of adverse health effects and increase the potential risks of adverse nutrient-nutrient interactions. They also state that excessive intake of one nutrient may interfere with absorption, excretion, transport, storage, function, or metabolism of a second nutrient.
So, in other words, what they’re saying is that if the ingredients in a supplement are not in proper balance, it could be less effective than taking no supplement at all – and even create problems. For instance, if zinc and copper are not balanced properly, it could be worse than having no zinc or no copper in the supplement at all. Similarly, if you take zinc or copper separately, you can imbalance the body and create serious problems.
The critical ratio of calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium is another good example. If you supplement calcium to solve bone issues without also supplementing phosphorus and magnesium in proper balance, you won’t solve the bone issues. In fact, you may actually create osteoporosis. So, the balance of nutrients is a critical issue, and simply having 100% of the RDA of each nutrient, like many supplements on the market, is not ideal. Nutrients must be in optimal balance with other key ingredients to be truly effective.
The most important reason why Daily Essential Nutrients outperforms other supplements is our NutraTek™ proprietary mineral delivery technology. We’ve refined and used this mineral delivery system in our vitamin-mineral formulations since we began, producing never-before-seen results. It combines micronized minerals with specialized organic molecules to maximize mineral absorption and delivery to body cells.
Micronization, which reduces each mineral to tiny particle sizes that the body can use, is a key step of our NutraTek™ proprietary mineral delivery technology. After the chelation process, which we’ll tell you about next, we add one more micronization process to ensure that the final product will be optimally absorbed by the body. All of these processes don’t just involve a couple of hours like most of the supplements on the market. The final product actually takes several days to produce, but it’s well worth it; that’s the price of performance!”

It explains their testing regime which I find reassuring. Better than supplements from brands that don’t have the same testing regime. If it also doubles as an advert I can’t see the problem so long as it is correct. To me it is a selling point. I am not publishing it as an advert, I just feel it has helped my husband, it is convenient to take these compounds in one product and I know it has an established quality control regime. Some people might be interested in that.
Laj, very interesting, IMO it is true that there is a lot of difference between a brand of vitamins and minerals. To a very familiar consumer, the difference is immediately evident in terms of speed of intake and effectiveness. especially in minerals. Even B1 can be old and degraded. Also true is the fact that vitamins must be properly balanced, I haven't been able to try Hardy's products but I find a big difference between mineral so much so that I almost gave up on integrating them, relying on a diet based on fresh vegetables, apart from magnesium, calcium and potassium. However I am convinced there are very bad vitamin-based products and others that are very good, the difference is often evident when used.
When I search for a supplement the first thing I look at is a list of inactive ingredients at the very bottom. When I see titanium- and silicon dioxide and microcrystalline cellulose which are quite controversial in their safety and are listed n Hardy's - that's a red flag for me.
It seems that they are saying that the particles of those questionable substances are large enough to pass through the bowel undigested. But can they support it with clinical data and what about people with leaky guts?
They are saying the particle size is bigger than the nano particles which cause problems because they enter cells. These particles are minerals that like many others are too big to enter cells so just pass through and out bowels or are digested in gut as ions. Silica dioxide is just sand and if you see my dogs bowel motions after going to the beach I can attest that sand does indeed pass through and out bowels undigested!
Comments they sent to me are just phrased so lay person can understand, but I am sure it is one of the things that they have researched but I am sure they will be happy to answer your questions if you contact them. They have been around for many years and are apparently one of the most highly researched multinutrients available. They have run clinical trials for years. Ions of dissolved minerals will pass through gut wall leaky or not. The key is the undigested oxides can’t go through cell wall as they are too big.
You are right - silica dioxide is sand if it is in crystalline form, however in food and supplement industry silicon dioxide is used in other forms - amorphous and colloidal which may be problematic since European Food Safety Association states that it may contain nano-sized particles and there are no long term studies to prove its safety, so they raised a red flag about it. foodnavigator.com/Article/2...
The European regulation, modification of 2020 says: “Warning! Hazardous respirable droplets may be formed when sprayed. Do not breathe spray or mist. " Annex II:
Hardy's is wrong on titanium dioxide. Titanium dioxide has been banned in Europe due to adverse effects - it is supplied as nanoparticles and disrupts human intestinal epithelial cells. I documented this here: Titanium Dioxide In Food – Not A Good Idea tinyurl.com/yxus4t6f Anything with titanium dioxide in it should not be ingested.
"Supplementation with high concentrations of pyridoxine [as vitamin B6] leads to decreased vitamin B6 function... Since 2014, > 50 cases of sensory neuronal pain due to vitamin B6 supplementation were reported... Pyridoxine induced cell death in a concentration-dependent way in SHSY5Y cells. The other vitamers did not affect cell viability. .... Moreover, both pyridoxal-5-phosphate [P5P] dependent enzymes were inhibited by pyridoxine."
Vitamin B6 supplied as pyridoxine can be toxic because it is inactive. The body must convert it is to the active form, P5P, before it is useful. Meanwhile it can occupy slots that require P5P and thereby disable enzymes that require it. Quality supplements provide B6 as P5P. I took a look at how Hardy's supplies B6 here:
They are using pyridoxine. B6 is crucial for PWP because it is depleted by carbidopa. 20 milligrams daily would probably not result in symptomatic harm, for healthy people, but I would not use this.
Quality control is a must. I subscribe to Consumerlabs which tests supplements. I have yet to find a case of any namebrand supplement manufacturer failing to have what they say they have in their products.
He is taking the one with extra vitamers. I will ask them again about the titanium dioxide and see if I can get more information about the particle size.
He is so much better than he has been for at least 5-6 years so something is helping. Maybe it’s not the Hardys but one of the other things. Anyway it doesn’t appear to be making him worse and he has been taking it for around 3 years now.
To be honest I would be more concerned about most of the doctor prescribed medications when you read the list of side effects and they also have many additives. The madopar is bright blue! Why??
What you have posted names both pyridoxine and P5P as forms of vitamin B6 that are included in the product. It names pyridoxine first and does not state the proportions of the two components. Since pyridoxine occupies first place that indicates it is more than half of the B6 supplied, maybe much more than half. The right amount of pyridoxine to use is zero. The supplements I use have only P5P.
Povidone (polyvinylpyrrolidone, PVP) is used in the pharmaceutical industry as a synthetic polymer vehicle for dispersing and suspending drugs. It also acts as a disintegrant and tablet binder. It appears as white to off-white hygroscopic powder in its pure form and is readily soluble in water.
What are the possible side effects of Indigo Carmine?
Indigo Carmine may cause serious side effects including:
hives,
difficulty breathing, and
swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat
Get medical help right away, if you have any of the symptoms listed above.
The most common side effects of Indigo Carmine include:
Objectionable inactive ingredients are rife in pharmaceutical products, even most, but not all, aspirin. I have not checked on povidone. However, this document shows madopar contains titanium dioxide and talc, which is even worse. Johnson & Johnson has lost major lawsuits over talc causing cancer in powder products.
In some cases we may be stuck with this junk but there is no point in ingesting when it can be avoided. I checked on my B supplement from Seeking Health and it does not contain these objectionable substances.
Yeah I guess if vitamins reduce the amount of pharmaceuticals they might be the better of 2 evils. But I am now going to very slowly reduce the amount of restore gold and Hardys and see if he still feels well and also start to cycle some of the others he is taking. I feel like his body is now processing things a bit better than before so in theory he shouldn5 need as much support.
I hope eventually he might be good on the maintenance dose for normal people!
The best B-complex with all the right forms of each B Vitamin is Sigform B-Complex. Dose is 1 tsp, but hubby takes 1/2 tsp every other day.
Thank you PB for introducing it to me. If you search Amazon for B-complex, you will not find it. You have to search for the specific one to order it. Weird. . .
I originally had him on the individual vitamins including a b with all the right forms when he first became ill. but it was not helping and once he swapped to Hardys he was noticeably better within a week. (2019)
His latest downslide last winter 2020 coincided with going onto levodopa for stiffness as he was quite well before that for quite a long period. The extra vitamers formula seems to suit him even better.
buy your supps in bulk and the ones from indonesia and thailand and china etc, pay the 100$ for a purity lab analysis.....mass spectrometer .....gas chromatograph....etc. you can get mucuna 10lb at a time and youll need it ... hang tough....cheers!
