I wondered if anyone else suffers with Urinary irritation, it feels similar to a bladder infection but tests prove negative

My GP has had me on antibiotics for a week but no better. The only change is my Neurologist has doubled my co-beneldopa dosage to 25mg/100mg 3 x day.

Could this be the cause of urinary irritation.

It is not yet proven that you do not have a UTI. No single antibiotic covers all bacteria. Did they do a urine culture or just stick a dipstick in the urine sample?

aafp.org/afp/2005/0801/p451...

" Routine urine cultures are not necessary because of the predictable nature of the causative bacteria. However, urinalysis may be appropriate for patients who fail initial treatment."

Urine culture and sensitivity test will tell you if you do have a UTI and if so which antibiotics are effective.

"Current literature suggests that a colony count of 100 CFU [colony forming units of bacteria], per mL has a sensitivity of 95 percent and a specificity of 85 percent, but the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) recommends using a colony count of 1,000 CFU per mL (80 percent sensitivity and 90 percent specificity) for symptomatic patients."

So to minimize the chance of missing an actual infection you would like the 100 CFU /mL standard to be used.

Please consider, for just one moment, that you might be thiamine deficient. See what would happen then:

I have found stinging nettle tea or powder capsules to be effective. I buy mine from Swanson vitamins in USA. also cranberry juice w/o sugar. Also AZO cranberry tablets.

Thanks for your reply I have tried cranberry juice but not checked sugar free.

My HWP was having a rough time with numerous trips to the bathroom prior to any proof of a UTI. One week of antibiotics did help but the trips continued. After much reading, I discovered "Bladder Control" supplement which is good for men and women. For the first two weeks he will have supplement 3x per day and it will settle to less dosage. He is already feeling so much better. Last night he was up only 2 times and he notices during the day that he is able to lengthen the time between trips to the bathroom. The ingredient is ground pumpkin seed - my brother-in-law has been using this product for 7 years and he swears by it. I added a snack of additional pumpkin seeds as well as a seed/nut granola for a breakfast dish which of course has pumpkin seeds in it - what a nice outcome to calm the bladder. Good luck.

Then I won't suggest my topical estradiol on the urethral opening trick ...

I have not been diagnosed with anything; I have had some symptoms similar to what my father had in the beginning with his MSA; he had been diagnosed with chronic prostatitis years before MSA. MSA is supposed to not be hereditary. I have had bouts of lower urinary tract symptoms since childhood that mimic UTI but aren't. When I was in my mid 20's I had a precancerous growth removed from my urethra.

Nebula genomics says I'm in the 100th percentile for prostate risk alleles in its user database - I keep thinking that is an error or glitch since I am female and typically percentile ranks are reported up to 99th; I do have almost all the risk alleles, though.

Dopamine can increase testosterone, so I'm wondering if that has something to do with your symptoms.

In any case, you might want to try try broccoli sprouts or seeds. Personally I favor the sprouts since there are other good things you can get from sprouts besides sulforaphane like spermidine and they are lower in erucic acid than the seeds.

I've had the same thing checked by 2 euros and one neuro , The pain is proportional to how little urine I have in my bladder,.

Thanks Gerry, my discomfort is worse some days with no obvious pattern.

Bramma It could be caused by constipation, I;ll spare you all the details but share the last lines from my response on a different conversation. Another clue, besides the flatulence, is urinary issues. Due to the prolapsed colon, restricting the urethra, if I become sluggish and don;t fully empty, I feel urges, but cannot release the urine. This sets me up for urinary tract infections, If my colon is clear, and I still cannot create much of a flow, that is a signal that I probably have a tract infection and need to consume more water.

Thanks for your reply it seems to be a complicated issue, managed to get a call booked with a urology nurse will report her findings.

You may find this article of interest in case it turns out to be IC instead of a UTI.

If it turns out to be IC, DMSO is one potential treatment.
