My recent blood test show an increase in red blood cells, Hemoglobin and Hematocrit. My doctor attributes this to an excess of V. B12. Has anyone experienced this?

Increased red blood
Is it over the designated high limit? I have had that as a result of time spent at high-altitude.
Yes it's superior. Altitude can be a cause but I'm not a climber. I am using a V.B12 supplement that I will interrupt and I will try to repeat the analysis in a month.
What supplements are you taking? Several are noted for increasing red blood cell count such as folate, copper, B12, vitamins A &C and iron, to name a few.

Hi Art, how are you? My supplements are many, certainly too many and I realize that they make me gain weight, in addition to neglecting the possible interactions between the various supplements. They are: Mannitol, Bio-Kult (probiotics), vit. C, complex B, Curcuma, Actisulf (broccoli-Wriga), vit. B12, B3, B1 (injection every 10 days), Quercetin, Nac, Vinpocetina, Coq10, Vit. D, Omega 3, in addition of course to the therapy based on Levodopa. Of Course, I take the supplements alternating, but I don't think I'm doing a good job. Blood tests prove it. What do you think about it? In your opinion, Art, what are the fundamental supplements for a pwp? Thanks
Fed1000,
I didn't see magnesium on your list and it is synergistic with the B1 as well as helpful to help relax muscles and relieve muscle cramping and is also useful to help get to sleep. Generally a good supplement for PWP and people in general. It can also be used topically to relieve joint pain from multiple causes such as arthritis, frozen shoulder or torn rotator cuff pain. It can also relieve pain from a sprained ankle and much more.
I also do not see melatonin which at a minimal 10 mg per day provided benefit to PWP as outlined here :

Other studies have confirmed multiple health benefits for humans and animals since melatonin is the most potent antioxidant in the body and also acts as a potent antiinflammatory.
Since you mention weight gain as an issue, you might consider apple cider vinegar(ACV) to help lose weight. I tried it once and it worked for me fairly quickly as in one month to measurable weight loss and it appeared to me that it wasn't just weight loss, but fat loss too! Here is an article that discusses it :

Other than that, your supplement regimen looks very good! There are always things you can add or substitute for specific health issues. For example, if you are currently taking a statin drug for high cholesterol and would like to avoid the somewhat serious side effects associated with the use of statins, you can consider lecithin as a substitute as shown here :

Thank you very much Arte.
One I forgot to mention is zinc as zinc is often low in PWP and it has a myriad of potential health benefits and especially if you are diabetic or prediabetic.

What is the dose for zinc Art and specifically what form as I am prediabetic and have a family history. I just ordered Amla to try. Any input would be much appreciated.
I am trying your melatonin 123 on my husband so at 9 pm he takes 10 mg followed by another 10 mg at 11. I have not contacted Dr Shallenburger as my husband is not quite ready for super high dose at the moment. In fact 20 mg is quite a jump from the 9 mg he used to take.
Fed 1000, I managed to lose 7 kg in 4 months doing intermittent fasting. I drink black tea or coffee in the morning and start eating from 1130 to 1900 having lunch and light dinner. . I follow a low carbohydrate diet, avoid all confectionary, processed foods sticking to meat and vegetables and fruits only berries. But I do have cheat days when I do eat a little cake. I love mixing cocoa powder with some mannitol or monk fruit in bit of hot water followed by some cream or cream cheese. It satisfies my dessert craving. There are many videos on YouTube by Dr Jason Fung, a Canadian doctor on losing weight through intermittent fasting and light exercise. It’s a lifestyle change..
All the best
Hi Millbrook,
To me zinc is more of a preventative, but you are already prediabetic, so melatonin may be a more appropriate option for you. Here is an interesting article on melatonin that also covers type 2 diabetes :

As you can see, melatonin is a pretty amazing molecule that has a lot of healthful activities in people and animals.
In terms of dosing, I can't tell you what to take, but the recent 10 mg/night study showed positive effects in PWP and may be a consideration as a starting dose. I can tell you that I am currently taking 100 mg of melatonin per night and will update on that as time passes by. Here is another study that may interest you since you are prediabetic :

Sometimes, things don't have to be too complicated!

I have the same problem, my doctor thinks it has to do with the testosterone I inject. I cut it in half and nothing has changed, I have completely stopped now and have a blood test in 6 weeks.
Before assuming it's related to supplements, your blood levels of B12, Folate, Copper etc. should be tested.
I have high hemoglobin and hematocrit, not attributable to vitamin supplementation. I have respiratory insufficiency due to ALS, these numbers should have improved with ventilator support, but they haven't.
Other causes are blood cancer such as polycythemia vera. You should have a CBC and Metabolic panel. You need your doctor to dig deeper.
