New research details how the complex set of molecular and fluid dynamics that comprise the glymphatic system—the brain's unique process of waste removal—are synchronized with the master internal clock that regulates the sleep-wake cycle. These findings suggest that people who rely on sleeping during daytime hours are at greater risk for developing neurological disorders.
"These findings show that glymphatic system function is not solely based on sleep or wakefulness, but by the daily rhythms dictated by our biological clock," said neuroscientist Maiken Nedergaard, M.D., D.M.Sc...

Interesting article. I recently stopped taking Rasagiline. I believe now that it was one cause of my daytime drowsiness. The naps in the day have stopped. I moved my c/l dosing later and I take my last dose at 11 pm. These changes, I believe, have effected my sleep pattern. I sleep from midnight to 8 am. I haven’t done this since I was 36. I am 61. I have been saying to my husband that (I guess obviously), the sleep is helping me feel better. Maybe, the improved sleep will do way more than just make me feel wakeful during the day.
Indeed this has been demonstrated. It's like changing your oil or transmission fluid in your internal combustion vehicle. That's the theory.
But the trick is to reach and sustain non-REM (deep wave) sleep. If you happen to fall asleep with a radio or something in your headphones, the csf does nothing, same as if you are awake. So you can't have any stimulation coming through your ears, because even if you are asleep, your brain is awake and having to listen, you never can get into the non-REM sleep and that fluid never gets in to do its flushing-restoration work.
