In search of the best Intermittent Fasting for the brain

Hi Friends,

I think that IF is potentially among the very best move we can take against PD.

Yet I am unable to find which IF scheme would be the most potent. I practice 5/2 but do so with no rationale. I listened to in-depths interviews of Dr Valter Longo and others, and what I found was inconsistent, based upon convictions more than evidence.

Any clue on your part ?

This purely my opinion, but I think fasting is a lot like exercise--follow whatever plan you will actually stick with...

To optimize the 3 daily 'body cycles' of appropriation, assimilation, and elimination (inc. the critical autophagy process), limiting the appropriation or 'eating window' to 6-8 hrs (16-18 hrs 'fasting') appears to be the IF routine most widely used and the one that works best for me. But as JC recommends, use what best suits your own personal routine.

Thank you PDConscience and Jimcaster. I could go pretty far of my comfort zone if it were to heal from my PD. I already do 36 hrs water fasting two times each week.

It has been proven (on mice) that 24 hours and 48 hours fasting promotes the number of autophagosomes in the brain. I have to find the ePub and post a link in here.

I am even considering 22/2 hours i.e. only eating dinner, plus my two 36 hours water fasting each week.

A biologist working on these matters and giving an interview to a quite knowledgeable journalist, revealed he was for himself only eating dinner and doing two 5-days fasting each year. But he did not have PD or anything.

Me too...8 hour window to eat, fast for 16...I feel great, have lost 37 lbs and I do feel as though my pd has not progressed too much in the past year. I’m not sure if it’s from the fasting though.

I have followed the fasting mimicking diet and have read Dr Longo book and find that it based on solid science. the fundamental values of fasting are autophagy and the stimulations of stem cells. I practice fmd and feel it has real value.

Thank you Patman. I listened to a long interview of Valter Longo. He inspired (and/or has shares in) a company that sells FMD boxes : all your meals in a weekly box. They suggest two to three weeks of FMD per year.
