Hi All, please give me your experience or thoughts re this:
I've been trying HDT B1 on and off since January 2019 till now (March).
I started in January on 2 caps, Solgar, then built up to 5 caps with B complex , Jarrow brand, (morning) for about 4 weeks. I wasn't sure but felt like maybe I got stiffer walking, can't remember if also balance....
so I stopped for 1 week and started again for nearly 2 weeks now, 3 caps in the morning, 2 in the afternoon. I wasn't sure about my walking getting difficult due to this or my PD progressing, so I reduce to 3 caps in the morning only for this week.
I also started taking Dr. Gundry' s Prebiotic and Polybac8 (probiotic from Nutrition Care brand) first thing in the morning, followed by a cup of black tea mixed with steva + coconut milk/cream + coconut oil, then took B1 (3 caps, Solgar brand) and B complex (Jarrow brand). Today after all these my head and face got gradually heated, tingly and quite red, then the body followed It lasted for about over an hour or to two hours, especially the head and face the strongest and longest.
I'm 55 female, aprox 1.55m tall and weigh under 48kg.
Does anyone havethis experience please?
Thanks.

It sounds like "flushing" that is usually caused by niacin, a prickly heat type of feel in the face, neck and upper body area, but I have also felt this from the supplement GABA, just not nearly as strong as niacin. Are you taking niacin in any of your supplements?
You may be right. I've read the lable of the b complex, it has B3 niacin it it and the warning says it may cause 'niacin flush' esp on an empty stomach. Symptoms incl those reaction I had. It says if a severe reaction occurs, drink plenty of water and discontinue use.
I give my daughter 22 YO with cerebral palsy this too. Is it ok?
Do you think I should not take it myself again? Thanks.
You might read a little about niacin and its use. The flush is a normal reaction to niacin, but not other B-3 forms. Some people are able to minimize or even avoid the flush bye working the dose up slowly over time. For some the body adjusts and the flush is no longer bothersome. I am not one of those people and have never figured a way around the flush no matter how slowly I built my dose up. For me the flush is just too uncomfortable so I don't use niacin at those type of doses.
Maybe something else you have added recently has a little niacin in it too? You can always skip a dose to see if it is that pill that is causing the heat?
Dr. C has recommended it to individual patients if he felt they needed it, but my impression is it is the exception not the rule. He actually prefers no other supplements while testing HDT until the optimal dose is established. Once the dose is good, he may suggest it or magnesium, but not normally until the optimal dose is found.
I've had this flush , prickly heat mostly hands and feet..when I'm statutory wear off.. I've just started taking HDT. so I know it isn't that..I don't feel my neurologist takes it seriously when I've questioned her in the past.. so after reading posts here it is related to too much Niacin?
The hot prickly heat in the face, neck and upper torso is often associated with the "niacin flush", but I have gotten a similar reaction from GABA although it is milder at the doses I have tried. I imagine other things can cause the prickly heat feel, but I don't know what they might be. There are no reports that Thiamine HCI / vitamin B-1 can cause flushing of this type.
GABA and Gabapentin are two different things. Gabapentin is a prescription med and GABA is a supplement that some find effective as a sleep aid among other things. Gabapentin can increase GABA in the brain and Gabapentin is a GABA analogue. Gabapentin is also noted for some serious side effects while GABA, much less so.
I have never read or heard that about GABA and I don't know if it affects others that way, but I found it out when I was experimenting with GABA. The heat is much milder than with niacin.
