Freezing feet and hands

My hubby is constantly with cold feet even with thick socks, double socks, and/or wrwrapped feet in warm blanket throws.

Lined mittens help his hands at night but even then sometimes he wakes up with them cold.

Can anyone lend experience and help with this? thank you

A small size or a medium size far infrared Jade stone heating pad

rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?...

You can put it underneath of you or on top of you and you can set it on very low so there is no burning. The far infrared Rays promote health and well-being. After using it for a while and always having a problem with cold feet that kind of went by the wayside. Both eBay and Amazon have it. I found it to be a very good investment.

Infrared promotes your Chi. Far and near infrared are both good. They have small sauna units that are infrared. My left side is that bad side. Especially my left foot would be ice, ice cold. I've been using the heating pad for a couple years now. It's made a huge difference, anymore my feet don't even get called. I set my heating pad on 103 degrees and that is just a nice warm feeling. It's made a big difference for me. Mary

I just hate it when the doc says, " well, I've run all the labs and everything is fine"! Makes you feel like your problem is psychological, when, actually, it is real! Mine is peripheral neuropathy of the hands and feet. I have been diagnosed with PD and Ataxia. The pins and needles, and odd feeling keep me up at night. A heated comforter helps me when my feet and hands are cold.

This is sometimes a symptom of iron deficiency which his doctor can check him for.

One surprising result of being on a Keto Diet for 6 months is that I now tolerate the cold really well and no longer suffer Reynaud’s syndrome - and I’m taking NO MEDS...

I totally have the same experience in tolerating the cold under even soft-Keto diet.

If his body temperature is dropping, ask his doctor to take a look at his thyroid function, not just the TSH. Low body temperature is a sign of hypothyroidism. There is an association between untreated hypothyroidism and worsening of PD symptoms although too much medication can increase tremor. One of the functions of the Thyroid is to regulate body temperature.

Also, feeling cold despite warm clothing can be a sign of anemia. Has he been checked for that? Again, a complete iron profile with Ferritin levels should be part of the evaluation.

By the way, I have a biomat mini which I use for myself on and off and do find it helps relax muscles and gives deep penetrating warmth to the body. It's a tad more expensive than the infrared blanket parkie13 uses, but I am glad I have it available. Something to consider. biomat.com/

Hope you are able to find a solution for your hubby!

I agree re checking the thyroid function as both a low temp and cold extremities can often point to that (I also have hypothyroidism and PD). hope Boyce can convince her endo to check!

good luck & take care...

Dr regularly checks thyroid but it has been a while since it is now very difficult to leave the house. I will be making appt anyway so we can get some PT and I will ask for the bloodwork. Thank u for all ur suggestions and for taking the time to reply.

Like 2bats, I have been on the keto diet (but for around 11 months) and I am tolerating cold weather much better (by the colour of my hands and feet my circulation seems better) and the swelling I used to get in my ankles and hands has gone. It may well not work for everyone but my health is better and I have reduced (but not eliminated ) the amount of L-dopa I take.

Have you checked out Raynaud's syndrome?

No, have not but will check into this. Many thanks!

Feeling cold can also be a symptom of restless legs syndrome. Sifrol (pamiprexole) is very useful with this.

Hmm... didn't make that connection. Thanks for calling to my attention.

The feeling of cold feet is on the inside not the outside and is not due to any of the other suggested problems just the Parkinson's. Dr suggested it may be due to limited mobility. Will try the jade stone heat pad, thank you

Someone else said due to limited mobility. Thank u..is so hard to coordinate all this. Everything is a priority. Now his neck is "stuck "to right. Doing warm compresses and starting massage this week.

Yes. I get the cold feet and then I can’t sleep. My low tech solution is a hot water bottle for the feet.

It sounds just like Raynaud's. I belonged to a support group of people who had feet and circulation problems. Ultimately, mine were solved with Nephedipine, that brought more circulation to my toes. But, other people on that site had Raynaud's (I may be spelling it wrong) . Will you let me know someday if that is the diagnosis? I'm a retired RN and any medical mystery really interests me.

Jumping in here....my hubby has PD and runs hot. I have Fibro and my hands especially get so cold along with numbness and tingling. We have a war over the thermostat. It seems to me he isn't displaying typical PD sensitivity to temps. He takes his C/L at night and by eve the next day he's sleepy and has more tremor which effects his left hand mostly. His problem with getting his legs moving is all day tho I haven't recorded it. I should for his next Nueroligist appt. if he has one. He's gotten resistant to any Drs. visit. I worry about how his lungs sound. Are lung problems part of PD? Maybe he was told something that he hasn't shared with me. I'm good at sharing....cronic complainer.
