There are many things that you can try. Are you taking a magnesium supplement? Are you using liquid magnesium oil, that you can spray on your legs and your toes? That seems to really help. Any kind of a massage will help, if you look on eBay the Homedics percussion massager with two balls is really good. Vitamin K2 really helps with cramps, if you have tried magnesium and other supplements that's one might be the answer. Soaking your feet in Epsom salts or baking soda is very helpful too. Using a far infrared Jade stone heating pad, that you can buy on eBay or Amazon helps me. That kind of heat is very good for pain. You can set it on very low. Good luck.

Greetings,

Just wondering how you know this isn't PD? The reason I ask is because ever since I started taking Sinemet, I can tell when the next dose is due or overdue, because I start to get tightening of the upper abdominal wall muscles. It generally disappears within 15 to 20 minutes after taking the dose.

Before Sinemet, I had a lot of muscle tightness and toe curling in one leg but it seems to have disappeared once the Sinemet was started. I don't know, but now I'm wondering if some of the remedies mentioned in this thread would prevent the abdominal muscle cramping regardless of the cause?

Any thoughts?

I think they would. . My husband was having leg cramps, he does not have Parkinson's, I do. Till we started using vitamin K3, we tried many different things, nothing seemed like it was helping. Dr. Mercola has a great video and an article on K3. My toes are still curling under but my leg cramps are gone.

My experience is that this is sinemet induced dystonia at the end of dose. The only thing that worked for me here was taking my next dose a little bit earlier. However I now take 100/25mg every 2 hours. I'm hoping to have FUS surgery this year to fix this.

Potassium

Yes, could be either potassium and/or magnesium.

Dr Chandler Marrs talking about her latest research on thiamine deficiency. A real eye opener. m.youtube.com/watch?v=BkKmi...

I had leg cramps almost every night, chalked it up to Parkinson's. But discovered later that taking a few things out of my diet has fixed the cramps (cashews, walnuts, soy products are main suspects.)

I originally played around with diet to resolve eczema and skin issues - cramps disappearing was a bonus.

A theory I've come across since then is that if the immune system develops a reaction to certain food proteins it will try and detoxify using various bodily systems (via lungs, skin, cramps, headaches etc.)

You could try it, you'd probably know within a week if it's the reason.

That also helped RLS, restless leg syndrome.

You are right about soy! But any meat or protein causes the distonia as does the vitamin B1! I get a lot of benefit from B1 but I also get terrible leg pains foot pains and dystonia from it. I also have to take the shots because the pills hurt my feet and legs so much. I am having such a problem finding the correct dose. I had to stop the B1. Does anybody have any ideas to help me out?

Also any ideas about how to get off sinemet?

Bcarrol,

I can tell you that people on the forum have reported that too much Sinemet or other Levodopa products in too high of a dose can cause dystonia. Other members who are taking B-1 have reported that the addition of B-1, at least in some people, has allowed them to lower their dose of Sinemet. This is the same thing that Dr. Costantini found, that many of his patients are able to reduce their dose of levodopa once they added B-1 to their regimen. Maybe you fit into this group who have been able to lower their Levodopa dose once they added B-1 to their regimen.

What I have never seen explained though is how these members knew to lower their Sinemet/ Levodopa dose and by how much. Perhaps it is because they started experiencing Levodopa overdose symptoms such as dystonia???

The other thought is that maybe your B-1 dose is too high as a B-1 dose that is too high can increase existing symptoms as well as temporarily cause symptoms that have not previously been seen before.

High doseThiamine HCL (vitamin b1) at least 2grams a day. Remove all sugar, cakes, chocolate, biscuits, bread, pasta, and rice from your diet. Remove caffeine and alcohol from your diet. Check out Dr Chandler Marrs and Dr Derrick Lonsdale at hormonesmatter.com

I never took B1 as didn't see any benefit. Then started to get restless leg symptoms, especially at night. Taking 100-200 mg of vitamin B1 at night and the symptoms have gone away. Coincidence? Not sure.

When I get leg or foot cramps I spray the area with magnesium oil. It usually clears it up in a matter of minutes. It’s a little messy, but it works great.

Fairly short video on K2 vitamin. If you have Parkinson's you really need it, we get very little from our food if any. Was not able to find that interview that dr. Mercola did with an expert. This one is a very good one too.
