Carbidopa Levodopa absorption may be delayed by eating fiber with dose. Would delays cause bigger problems with Continuous Release?

Have been researching Carbidopa levodopa and found reference to other meds , supplements, vitamins, DELAYING the release of meds, especially those with fluctuating blood pressure or constipation. Switching to extended release without knowing that led me to increase dose with IR bridge. Overdose of CL mimics underdose. I keep track of food, timing, and doses. Adding symptoms, blood pressure readings and temperature to this journal has helped me identify my body’s signals of overdose. Reading the posts of others caused me to pay attention to tinnitus and the fluctuation of blood pressure. Please check out the things that delay release. Also found that the release and time of release are different by gender.

The online version of the PDR has a lot of information and two studies, one from Pub Med, Comparison of IR and Controlled Release Carbidopa Levodopa and the other from American Academy of Neurology of Science, Optimizing ER C/L Dosing in PD.

Trying to read How to Dose CL ER Capsules, found in Clinical Medicine Journal, vol 1, No2, 2015, pages 34-37.

Another thing to include on your list - vitamin B6, if taken in proximity with carbidopa levodopa will inactivate the carbidopa and thereby render the levodopa ineffective. Vitamin B6 will of course be in a B complex but also multivitamins and emergen-C. Allow at least two hours spacing between any ingestion of B6 and carbidopa levodopa.

I too have been studying the effects of Pharmaceutical Carbidopa levodopa when taking with other things in the digestive system.

We have talked a lot about mucuna pruriens the natural levodopa.

I'm wondering if the same concerns with mixing apply to it?

I’m interested in this post/topic and a little confused too. I heard that you should eat a piece of toast with jam or honey with your morning dose, and your Sinemet will take effect sooner. Hmm.... so maybe I should not have the piece of toast after all?

The sugar in the jam and honey would probably speed up absorption. Carbonated drinks speed it up too. Fat, eaten with the med, may slow it down. I don’t think a gram or two of fiber would slow it down, but a whole salad or vegetables with the dose may. The key is to have small servings more often and try to keep it a half hour or so before or after a dose. The exception might be first meal of the day when your stomach is already empty. Fiber and water are essential for keeping your digestion on track. It is a balancing act for everyone. Timing is everything!
