I am a white male, almost 64, have been feeling the effects of PD for about 4 years. Mostly tremors on my right side. I have been using Mucuna for about a year, along with Lions Mane Mushroom extract. My father also had PD.

Through my own research, i just wanted to try something "natural" rather than just accepting the status quo and eating the prescribed pills. I was buying MP from Powder City, but they recently closed down. I just ordered from NutriVitaShop and am hoping it works as well as the PC MP seemed to. I also take Lions Mane Mushroom extract which does not stop the shakes but i feel has really made a difference in my balance and coordination. It is supposed to be a neuron regenerator and has a long history in eastern medicine.

So far, a small amount of MP, about 100 mg, added to a smoothie with Spirolina and ceylon cinamom seems to get me to "normal" for about 4 hours

My symptoms have certainly gotten worse since my diagnosis, but that was expected. i can function for periods without the symptoms once i take the MP.

Good stuff!

So, What's behind the Spirolina and. C.cin? Do they improve/support the MP metabolism or are they essentially "Superfoods" used to boost nutritional value of ur smoothie?

my understanding of the use of spirolina is that it has the ability to pull metals out of your system. The Japanese have used it for that reason since the 40's, IE Hiroshima nuke. It also seems to have a major effect on my seasonal pollen allergies. I did not have a major reaction this season since i have been using it. I usually ( for my entire adult life) suffer badly, even with the allergy meds.

The ceylon cinnamon has been shown to slow the effects of PD in rats. I read a white paper on that subject. i dont have that info in my head but i will go back and try to find it and post it here.

Granted, this might all be out of desperation, but i need to do SOMETHING that I feel is beneficial, and since the med community is baffled by this PD disease, with little help for most of us, I continue to placate myself with these options. Besides, they dont hurt anything and maybe they will even help. And, with the common knowledge that if this dosent kill me, something else will, i just live one day at a time.

Hi Jim. How much mucuna do you take? Did you have to experiment with doses?

I did play with it at first. The Powder City MP was supposedly 98%, and i am using about 100mg (one of the little plastic scoops they give you) with a berry based smoothie that also has ceylon cinamon and spirolina and lions mane mushroom extract added. It makes me able to function normally for awhile so i just continue to do it. Now, tremors are my only symptom.

Sounds like once a day, in the a.m. ... ?

yes. Sometimes, when I need to not be shaking alot, I will take some MP in capsule form when the AM dose wears off. i try and limit the amount i use. I have noticed in my reading that people take the Sinemet maybe 5x a day. So far, i can deal with this the way it is and not use the MP often. But as we know, this shit just gets worse, so I suppose i will wait and see when it does. I have chosen to not have a Neurologist involved at this time. Am hoping that i might get hit by a truck (or a train) before I get real bad. Or, maybe some martian will land and make contact and tell us all the cure for this. Ha Ha Ha, gotta keep a good attitude, the options arent so great.

press on regardless.

Thanks for your reply and insight. I believe it is spelled " Macuna".

So far it has worked for me to some level. And I'd rather use something more "natural" than the pharma pills. And its something i can afford to do and easy to get. Also, it has a long history in eastern medicine which cant be discounted.

But short of something that will get those dead cells producing the dopamine again, my hopes of seeing PD in the rear view mirror are not very realistic. I know that.

Again, I press on regardless. Dont we all? This site is full of people looking for an answer. Something that will work for them. Grabbing straws? Probably. Hopeful for the future and a solution? Most definitely! Willing to try something different? YES.
