How to take octasa?

Hi, I'm newly diagnosed with "indeterminate colitis". Just been prescribed octasa 800 X 3 per day. Any thoughts on whether to take as 3 separate doses or all in one go would be welcome. Thank you.

Hi take a break 🤗

I use to take octasa twice a day am and pm for colitis. Sometimes I’d pass them through hole but consultant didn’t seem bothered.

It should say on your prescription on how to take as you may be different

I space mine out over the day and I change my dose depending on how I am so if I’m doing ok I just take 800 once a day in the morning, if I need a higher dose I add in a midday and evening dose. It really is a case of finding a routine that suits you best.

I also take 3 x 800 Octasa for moderate colitis. I take all 3 at the same time.

I take 6 in the morning - my consultant is happy with this.

Hi. I'm taking also 6 X 800mg all in one go. Normally in the evening. 🙂

I would not take them all at once but 2/3 times a day. They can cause indigestion and I imagine taking them all together may exacerbate that problem. Assume you also know to take any omneprazole at a different time of day.

I take mine all at once (3x800mg) as I am forgetful and 3 times a day is too much to remember. My Consultant said they still do the same job and that it’s okay to take them at once or spread them out. Maybe see what your prescriber says? X

Thank you... We may be kindred spirits on forgetfulness! I'll ask at my appt next week. Best wishes to you. X
