Octasa 800mg MR and slow metabolism?

Hi everyone

I was diagnosed with moderate UC 5 years ago and am lucky to have only had 2 flares - the first one being brought on by the colonoscopy.|

Occasionally I have an accident when I don't quite make it to the loo in time - fortunately whilst I'm still at home. I had one a few days ago and saw 2 of my Octasa tablets in amongst...well you know what I'm referring to LOL. I've posted about this before and was asked whether it was just the outer shell of the tablet that was in amongst it and I didn't know the answer. So, this time I investigated. One was totally undigested and the second was only minimally digested. I had taken them approximately 16 hours beforehand!!!

I guess I probably have a slow metabolism which must have contributed to the tablets not being digested and, thankfully, there were no adverse effects on my UC.

Fortunately these 'accidents' are few and far between but I'd like to know whether 1. anyone else has this issue and 2. whether I should report this to my IBD team.

Thanks for reading 😊

I would certainly mention it to your IBD team as you are presumably getting a lower dose of Octasa if it passes through. Maybe Pentasa granules would be more effective, or something similar which has the same basic ingredient.

Hi,I couldn't get on with Octasa, just didn't suit me. As for 'accidents' I think most of us IBD sufferers have them from time to time. They are quite demoralising but we clean ourselves up and get on with it, what else can we do!!!
