Advive pls: Morning everyone i suffer... - Crohn's and Colit...
Advive pls
I have been on 150mg Azathioprine for about 17 years and have been in remission for 17years. As long as you stay out of the sun, or keep yourself covered up you should be fine. I have regular blood tests (every month) and that is it. Personally, I don't understand the fuss made about this drug, in particular, when there are so many that we are allergic to or suffer adverse reactions to. I wish you well and stay safe.
Thanks for the reply just another question im staying on 25mg till i start drug then taper predisolone i still have some right side discomfort can u start new drug if your flare hasnt completely gone or not untill it is gone altogether
I personally am not on Aza (yet) as seem to be okay with Octasa but I do know a couple of people on Aza. One thinks it is great; she does have to keep out of the sun but had very little in the way of side effects. The other person I know had to stop Aza because it made her feel very nauseous even when taking the meds before food. So, as always with IBD drugs, what suits one will not suit another. The fb Crohn's and Colitis forum has many people on Aza; I would ask who has had positive stories to tell. You can only but try and as FRreedman has found, it can work brilliantly for some! Good luck x
I was on Aza for around 4 years. It took a while for them to get the dose right for me, I ended up taking Allopurinol to balance out some of the junk acid my system generated when metabolising Aza. Once the dose was figured out I found it managed my colitis very effectively. The only thing is, be particularly diligent with using proper, quality, high protection sun cream. I found that I burnt very quickly, less than 20min in summer sun was enough for me to start burning. That took me by surprise as my family tend to go olive in the sun.
With proper quality sun cream it shouldn't be a problem though.
I hope Aza is effective for you - it can do the trick for a lot of folk.
I was on Azathioprine for around 18months, it can take around 3 months before you seen an improvement in condition, hence why keeping on with preds is best... gives you the best chance of azathioprine helping.I worked for around 12 months for me then I went worse so came off to move to biologics... but you do have to be a little patient.
Thanks which biologic are u takeing
Hi Penny I have been on Azathioprine for the past 15 years. Experienced some difficulties at first, any thing that happen to me health wise I blamed it on Aza. Now I do think it was it was just my state of mine. As time went by I got more use to the drug and it has the best thing to stabilised my colitis. I have to say that there are some food and drink I avoid now e.g any thing that contain sulphites, nuts with brown skin, cows milk. Wheat. I found these food that I am intolerant to by trial and error which is a long way round. I have to say that I am also on Pentessa oral and rectal daily. You have to persevere with the drug it is easy to give up. I feel so much better I would like to think I am in remission . Good luck
Thanks for reply so glad your feeling better now 🌞
