Hi All,
Is it possible to have an IBD without raised inflammatory markers in blood and stool tests.
Mine always seem to be normal but have never been tested during a flare, not sure if this makes a difference?
Thanks

Well i’m just out of a flare and mine is normal, during my last flare my level was over 1800. So yea I suppose it can go to a normal level for some people out of a flare?! I’m no expert tho, maybe check with your doc
Mine are also normal when not flaring my last flare my faecal calprotectin was 1700 and blood inflammation markers raised so it definitely needs to be carried out when you think you may be flaring! X
My inflamation markers have always been normal even when it's so obviously a flare and there's inflamation. I don't understand it but my Drs now just accept my markers are never high and doesn't mean there's no inflamation
My bloods never reflect a flare except when I nearly perforated then they shot up. At present Im in a flare, my CRP and ESR is in the 60's and have been for 12 months. colonoscopy showed mild inflammation from rectum thru to ileum, yet biopsies show chronic serious inflammation, especially in ileum, so now been diagnosed with small bowel crohns as well.
My Gastro says that IBD meds can cause inflammatory markers to be low, as they are meant to reduce the inflammatory response to stop the body attacking the bowel.
My daughter has had the same issue. Inflammation markers say normal but she is having a severe flare up and hospitalized with very low hemoglobin due to blood loss.
