what is normal.

Hi everyone, I'm so glad I have found this post, it's helping me a lot as I have only recently been diagnosed. In the nine months of illness Iv'e had about six flares, they have lasted three days maybe, where I go to the loo day and night about 20 times, feel so weak and feverish. Between these "flares", I feel better but not normal like I used to. Still have to go to loo urgently but not through the night, maybe three times daily, but not so feverish and mentally a lot happier. Is this my normal from now on? Or will I feel normal like before the diagnosis? I do feel grateful that I have been diagnosed later in life. Must be so tough for younger people! Thank you.

Life will never be the same again...… Not a threat, a promise. I was diagnosed at 11, and there is nothing that can be considered normal. I go to the loo between, 4 times a day and once every 3 days. However it is always with a sense of urgency. I no longer feel tired all the time, but suggest you keep a check on your B12 levels as well as vitamin D. (Get your GP to check for you). My biggest bug bear is that I get pain a lot of the time, and the only way to relieve it is to go to sleep(which fortunately, I do fairly frequently, anyway). By the way I am now 62, so have had time to get used to normal being anything but. Good luck

It’s hard to say what normal is. Normal for some is extreme for others. What’s important is you find your pattern and manage your health. Your way.

Once you get settled on meds you can lead a "normal" life in between flares. I was started on Asacol 21 years ago and touch wood I've not had any major flares since 🤞

Thank you for the honest replies. I feel I can cope as long as I understand what's going on. Have noticed before a flare my eyes are very red! Also felt rough for a few days and just ate chicken and rice, all bland foods. Then on Saturday night through caution to the wind and ate a mild curry and 3 glasses of wine....woke up feeling so much better! This is a tricky illness for sure. Best wishes to you all, and thanks.
