My diet - My life

I recently started a new diet in hopes to better control some of my symptoms. I went on a gluten free & caffeine free diet for a year before and did have much improvement, however feeling better I fell off the diet and just went back to eating same as partner who doesn't have Crohn's. Eating same as partner has caught up to me and I am having lots of flares and inflammation.

I got some flack from some loved ones. Very negative in nature. I honestly don't know why anyone cares what I eat, I am not hurting anyone, I am not pushing my diet on anyone, I am not even trying to loose weight ( however pounds are falling off) , I am not expecting a cure as I know there is none, I just want to eat better in order to lessen my symptoms of inflammation and hopefully one day take less medications.

It took some time to explain this to loved ones so they understand this is not some fad expensive diet I am into. This is about my health. It's hard for people to understand when you look ok on the outside.

I haven't got anything to loose by eating healthy and what's so wrong with wanting to eat healthy.

Wishing everyone with Crohn's much support and ease of symptoms.

Good for you, Hobbits! Hopefully your loved ones will be inspired to take better care of themselves too, meanwhile I'm glad you're building a better body for yourself.

Hi Hobbits, Im also gluten free. People on occasion try to tempt me by saying oh just have some of this but I always refuse. I found once I stopped eating gluten I lost more weight which I didn't want to lose to be honest but then it settled down and I stayed at a certain weight.main thing is being as healthy as you can be and you've obviously proved that gluten isn't good for you. We have to do what we think is best for ourselves because it's us that are dealing with it on a daily basis. I know other people may mean well but it's our choice at the end of the day .

Exactly, I have loved ones who say the understand when clearly they don't. They sigh in disappointment when I say no thanks to cake, and even tried joking it's gluten free. It's not really funny to me as this is very hard work, I love cake and don't exactly want to say no, but I'm sticking to my guns for theses first 30 days. Then after that I can add some things. I'm doing it for my health and people are not hearing that part. I think people worry about how it will affect them, not really thinking that it's good for me. If others could only live a day in a flaring body I think everyone would understand.

Yes I agree!!! And anyway you can get gluten free cake!! I treat myself sometimes to a lovely lemon cake from the supermarket. I also make my own carrot cake with no sugar because sugar causes inflammation too!!!! I found it so hard in the beginning but I've learnt so much about gluten free food now. I really believe my diet helps me. I was strict about dairy too but have re introduced butter and a small amount of cheese too. I also make water keifer and red sauerkraut full of probiotics. Anyway il shut up rambling now 😂 Take care of yourself and hope it works for you.
