Hi. My bf was diagnosed with UC a few months ago. He was initially on an anti inflammatory and steroids but hasn't got better so is now also on immunosuppressants but still no better, he has been on them for 3 months.
Does anyone have any advice on medications/diet? Anything?? thanks

Hi, Sometimes these meds take a while to work, so things may improve soon. I have been on the same sort of combination for two years and still no real results, despite doubling my dose of Humira (injected biologic). A low fibre diet helps me. Good luck to your BF.
Hi hun, immunosuppressants take about 12 weeks to build up in the system to a therapeutic levels.
Diets are different for people so its trial and error. Iv tried gluten free, lactose free, meat free but only thing that works is low fat and as Valbaty54 during problematic times low fibre (often referred to by gastro teams as a low residue diet).
This diet is easy to digest so the bowel doesn't have to work hard. its bland and boring but it definitely helps. foods include white fish, chicken, potatoes (boiled or mashed only) white rice and certain veg that need to be well cooked.
Thank you guys. He's going to try a very bland low fiber diet for a few days. He wants to top up his food with protein shakes but I don't know much about them...?
I would wait until things have settled before using protein shakes, then introduce them so if they make things worse he will know that there not helping. A lot of these shakes and things have added fats and fibre.
Hi, sorry to hear about your boyfriend, I have Crohn's. You will find as you go along that we are all so different and what works for one may not work for another.i myself follow a gluten free diet, try not to eat processed foods!!! At least cut them down a bit at a time. I only have a small amount of dairy as in cheese and butter. I eat mostly white meat and have fruit and vegetables every day. I make vegetable soup with garlic, ginger, Turmeric and black pepper. I purée the soup and freeze it. I have that 3 times a week at least. For me walking and meditation classes have helped enormously!! Keeping your mind busy is a god send. I'm on Humira. I started this on 7th of march. Not without its side effects but I'm hoping things even out a bit as time goes on. I hope things improve for him soon.
Hi this may sound gross and you probably need to run it past his consultant but I had a year long flare that just didn't react to anything, I was told by an acquaintance that a water based tumeric wash of u know where can help, I used it and within a week I was clear, have made sure since my diet is good and I don't get constipated under any circumstances, it was probably coincidence but who knows, I also take the tumeric black pepper and good quality extra virgin oil about 3/4 times a week
