Did the third run in week 2 this morning, but although I've tried, I can't keep up with Laura's advice on breathing in for 4 and out for 4. I find that 2 in and 2 out feels more comfortable. Is this something I need to be working on if I want to improve? Any advice gratefully accepted!

2 in 2 out is apparently what most runners do. There was a lovely article on here the other day re breathing and how we should try to acually do uneven number breathing, (e.g 3 in 1 out). I'll try to find it and link it!

Don't worry about it. It all comes together naturally around Week 4. Happy running!

You're not the first to find Laura's suggestion for breathing beyond possible! Cant remember when it happened for me, but I have settled into a routine which suits asthmatic me. You will too. BTW, you may well find that you change technique altogether when the outside air gets below freezing - let's hope this wont happen too often now April's here! :D. All the best, Linda

This page suggests that half of that is reasonable: nhs.uk/Livewell/c25k/Pages/...
I find Laura's recommendation of 4 in 4 out a bit much and still tend to do 2 in, 2 out (I'm in week 8 of the programme now).
The important thing is to find something that's comfortable and not to be breathing really quickly.

I can't find the article that someone else posted re this a week ago or so but this article here explains it: mamashealth.com/run/breath.asp

It only matters if you stop breathing completely! Short of that, don't worry about it; do what works for you. This is one of those areas where Laura's advice doesn't quite fit the real world.

I remember that advice, I also remember trying it and nearly passing out!!
Just breathe, find whats comfortable for you, some advice works and some just doesn't everyone's different xx
Good luck
