Took some sage advice from IronMatt today and went out for a 25 minute week 7 run to test drive the new shoes. It was absolutely lovely, I enjoyed the run despite the waterlogged towpath and threatening weather. Only ran 3k, but it was definitely a good idea to ease in the shoes as unfamiliar muscles were beginning to ache quite a bit.
As I was back at the house within 35 minutes, it struck me how much easier this is than the gym with all the getting-there-and-back palaver and getting-changed-in-front-of-fit-youngsters malarky.
Meanwhile I don't feel bad about a relatively modest and enjoyable run today. I pushed myself yesterday with a tricky technical orienteering run. It took just over an hour (3.5km with 120m of climb) and I didn't come last. This is one of the main aims of couch to 5km for me, as I was sick of propping up the bottom end of results tables at orienteering events while chocohusband and chocosons win medals!
Anyway, I have been orienteering for 2 years now and although I still get beaten by fit orienteers in their 60s, 70s and 80s, they have been doing it a lot longer than me so I feel that I am excused!
Happy runnings

OMG Chocotwit - much respect!!! How on earth did you get into all of that??? Isn't it challenge enough to be running along a respectable track without having to find your way, while running, up a mountain???
Mind you... having said that, the Austrians seem to run up mountains and back down in the blink of an eye - it's awe inspiring.
Well good for you, you have my utmost respect, Sara
Chocotwit I love YOU.....You are soooo funny but INSPIRING....Yes I am with you on the gym thing....toooo much time wasted getting organised and getting there, this running thing is just so much easier, you just start & finish at the back door, thats the best bit for me...You are amazing with this orienteering, dont know how you do it to be honest !!!
