Over-ambitious?

Hola,

So I've agreed to do the British 10k race with my friend on July 14th 2013. I've just finished week 4 of the programme and will have a go at the first run of week 5 on Tuesday :D

Am I being a bit ambitious to have my first race as a 10km race?? Possibly being a little stupid? :/

Thanks :) xxx

Not at all. You have plenty of time to prepare and I am sure you will be fin. In the meantime I suggest you do a few 5k events, just to get used to running with a crowd, and if you can get to a parkrun then that would be an ideal place to start.

You'll be fine, you've got plenty of time. My first race was a 10k only a few weeks after graduating and I really enjoyed it. I did walk some bits but I didn't come last. The faster runners are all really encouraging. If you follow the program and then a decent 10k training program after that, you'll be amazed how much you progress by then. Just build up your distance gradually so you avoid injury (no more than 10% increase in your long run each week).

No way is it over-ambitious, you've enough time to train for a marathon from now to June! go for it, it'll be brilliant motivation and park runs are fab to get you familiarised with running with others. good luck with the rest of the programme!

I'm doing that as my first race too - perhaps we can encourage each other on the way? I'm running for fsid in memory of my sister & her son who both died this year.

Thats loads of time. I bet you could run a half marathon in 7 months times if you keep at it.

BUPA has some good training plans online. How about following this 8 week BUPA training plan after completing C25k
