Me and My Bum...

Right... here goes.... all my life my btm has been described as the flat side of an apple when you cut it in half - not the lovely round part. Perhaps tmi but one of my nicknames lovingly bestowed upon me by my darling Man is 'Apple Bottom' :-)!!!

However, one of the advantages is that I don't have problems fitting said body part into slim line skirts/trousers. Today I was trying on a 'slim me' suit with very slim line skirt and I noticed that it was sticking out at the back. Make a long story short... said wonderful Man was summonsed and was asked if I was imagining it or had I put on weight after all this running... Wonderful Man said "ohhhh noooo.... your Apple btm has gone"... apparently I'm looking tauter (WOW, now that's a novelty) which is wonderful for me but the love of my life is now going around muttering "plum bum just doesn't sound the same..." - well I'm not complaining even if he is :-)!!!!!

How wonderful for you, its funny how we don't always notice these suttle changes at first. After losing just over 3 stone I now have to try on much smaller sizes, yesterday I ended up buying a new micropore fleece from Sports Direct, ladies size 8 was too long in the sleeve and big across the shouders £17.99, girls 12-13 years fitted perfectly £7.99 so I bought 2 different colours, as you do ;)

Hi Oldgirl - you are so right :-). But how wonderful to fit in to children's clothing - wow, good on ya :-)!!! It's interesting you say about the changes because a bit of a long time ago now I lost 18 kilos and now I sort of waver between 4-5 kilos of my original target weight. The interesting bit is that a while ago I thought oooh, I better do a bit of my healthy eating programme just to keep that balance in check but with the running haven't been as strict as I would have been without it so with the scales not changing too much it's quite odd, weird and different to see my body doing different things without having had to concentrate too much on my 'healthy eating programme'. So, yes subtle is definitely the right work - honestly, I'm a bit fazed by it. A lovely new experience at the age of almost 55 - wonderful how we can keep on evolving and experiencing different things :-). Wish I could see you model your gear, bet you look really great :-), Sara xox

Haha right word wrong spelling, I'm soo lazy these days about my spelling, wonder if Admin would put a spell check on here for me!!! The next thing you will find if your like me is that you get your waist back. I lost mine 20 odd years ago and became box shaped, now I go in at the waist again, its wonderful :)

Well, I'm sure you never tire of hearing it but you are a true inspiration. Wouldn't worry about the spelling, my phone has it's own weird and wonderful editing system and has even sent a rather rude word not on my behalf! Have a happy weekend OG :-) , Sara xox

It is amazing to find a whole new shape emerging through running. I have lost 10kg since July, down from 74.4kg to 64kg (so far). I have actually lost this amount before, and sadly put it on again. The difference this time is that as well as healthy eating I have been working out at the gym (which I had been doing for some time beforehand), but also running 3 times a week, doing C25K and now just running 5k each time. Although I have been this weight before, I have never been this shape, much less hippy, more just up and down, and the big bottom has GONE! I even bought a size 12 skirt today - unheard of before. I am 58 and have been chunky all my life. To think that there was a slim girl trying to get out all this time, and it took the running for her to emerge. No-one here is complaining either, this morning my hubby told me how proud he is of me and what I have achieved. I like that.

Ohhh Sugar, it's really wonderful isn't it - first we find there's a runner in us wanting to get out and then shortly, hot on her heels appears a shapely person. Sounds like you and I have been on similar journeys. I'm 54 and, like you am amazed at the ability of my body to suprise me like this!

Sugar, now you've graduated, do you still just run the 5k? I've seen plans that would have me out there for an hour... not sure how I'd fit that in to my life, what about you???

Anyway, congratulations Sugar and isn't it great that your hubby is so proud - it does make a difference I think. WOW, a size 12 - well now you can start enjoying all those hot fashions :-). Thanks for being in touch, it's wonderful to 'meet' people and share such a challenge and achievement.

Cheers, Sara xox

I graduated a couple of weeks ago, but I wasn't running 5k then, so for the last two weeks I have been working at getting up to the 5k, I finally did it on Wednesday, and then again today, bettering my time by one and a half minutes! I think for now I shall concentrate on running the 5k, it took me 38 minutes today, so have a long way to go. I'd like to be able to do it in 30 minutes before I decide on what to do next. I don't think I could spare 1 hour 3 times a week. I also go to the gym 2 - 3 times a week, and I have a dog who makes me walk her twice a day. You won't be able to see me sideways soon!

Omg Sugar, all that on top of running.... Blimey! I've started a Bollywood dance workout and i have my Leg Magic which, when i use it, gives me wonderful core stability along with my home trainer bicycle which i had to get to strengthen my quads to supper my knees so i could carry on hiking. They're all great mountain hikers here so protecting the knees is of the highest priority and anyone over 50 who loves hiking trains 10 minutes a day on a home trainer! So back to all that to Support my running but i have a disastrous track record with gyms so i take my hat off to you :-). A slight sprinkle of snow here last night but nothing to get the yaktrax pro on for - windy tho'. W7R1 here i come. Al the best you invisible woman you :-)!xox

Great to read about all these positive body changes! I too have gone down a dress size since starting in July and, yes, I like it :-)

Hi Delia :-), it's great going down dress sizes because of doing something we're enjoying :-). Yes, i guess watching the intake is important to but regardless, as long as we're running, the shape does seem to change - i like that too. Have you had to buy a new wardrobe? In Italy i imagine that would not be a difficult task :-). Happy Sunday and hope you're feeling on top form now, Sara xox
