I've been away for the last week or so, and it's been 34 degrees C where I've been. Although I graduated a couple of weeks ago (yippee!) and I have always run when away before, I just couldn't face it in that sort of heat, plus the humidity was dreadful. There were people running, mind, but I couldn't have done it.
So I came back and dithered about going out again. Would I be okay? Could I still run? Had I lost all fitness in 11 days and would I have to go back to the beginning?
In the end, I decided 'just' to go for a run. If I managed 10 minutes, great. If I got to 15, fantastic. Actually, it was very liberating 'just' running. Much as I love Laura, going out without a plan was wonderful. I did my normal route and I managed to run for 35 minutes, including up the north face of the Eiger! (well, okay, a slight incline on my way home)
So I'm really pleased with myself. I still have to work on speed and achieving the 5k in 30 minutes, 'cos at the moment I'm really slow, but that's okay. The important thing is, I went out and enjoyed running for 35 minutes. How great is that?
