Week 1 Run 1; The morning after the run before.

After some pretty bad experiences during PE lessons at school. I've pretty much shunned sport in the last ahem twenty (or so!) years. As you can imagine I'm pretty unfit and getting to an age where it is beginning to matter. After spending a while considering what I could do about this, I came up with running, as it doesn't matter if my technique is bad, I can do it alone, so won't be embarrasing myself or holding anyone back, it won't cost me too much money, and I think I can squeeze it in to my busy life.

After a slight delay caused by computer problems trying to download the podcast, I set off at around 7pm yesterday in the rain. I surprised myself at how much I actually enjoyed the first four minute runs but then it hit me on the fifth and I began to feel a bit wobbly in the legs and I really began to struggle with keeping the pace up in the walking sections. Once Laura told me I only had two runs left I began to pick up again (psychological?) I also struggled with the last 5 minute walk down, it seemed to go on forever and I just wanted to collapse in a heap on some park bench somewhere, but I kept going and am pleased that I did.

Felt a bit groggy when I woke up this morning, oddly my muscles were not too bad but I felt slightly off colour and headachey and I had a mouth ulcer. I'm not sure if this is connected to running or not. I felt much better after a glass of water and a cup of coffee.

Run 2 tomorrow! Onwards!

Well done for getting started - you'll find the weeks fly by, before you know it, you'll be a graduate and officially a runner (in fact, according to Laura, you are a runner by the end of week 6)

Well done Pelephant. I found the sectors harder as they went on too.

My legs were ok as I walk the dog often for about 30mins. Yours will soon firm up!

I was also out of puff at the start of the cool down walk.

Remember, the first time is always the hardest. I even admit I was a little scared to go out!!!

Keep in touch.

It's my morning after my first ever run too! I am so glad that I have decided to start this. I'm only 23 but after being at uni and working behind a desk for 12 months I have no muscle and NO fitness at all! last night was tiring and I got a stitch. Always seem to get stitches i wonder what causes them? But I ran through it which I would never do without the Podcast!

I cried when I'd done W1R1 because I was so happy! And have got happier all the way through (with a few total fails, too!). Well done, Pelephant, and keep going!

Oh you are all so nice, thank you! It's nice to know that you all seem to be enjoying it so much! And yes, the podcast is amazing, just hearing Laura's voice is like having someone with you! Good luck all!

Well done you, I'm off after this to complete W2R2. I'm the same, my friends love running and talk about how it clears their minds, all I can ever think about is how much pain I'm in !! Still I got through the first week ok, but not with much in the tank, managed to get through the first run in week 2 ok ish so I'll see how I go with the next two - its just about taking your time and before you know it you'll be running further than you ever thought you could !! Good luck for the rest of the programe.
