Rest Days....

I was wondering if it would hurt my progress to take 2/3 days rest between runs, as I get further into the program my knee is taking a pounding and it aches for much longer atm... Am hoping it will soon get use to the longer runs!

Once I reached the last few weeks I did just two long runs a week and plan to continue like that. I'm active on the "rest" days too, walking the dogs daily, cycling, and swimming- I just give running a rest. Try running on soft ground to avoid stress on the knees- park after rain, canal towpath, treadmill. Happy running

Take the extra days - it may stop you getting a long term problem that would stop you running for a long time. I am reading John Galloway's book (Olympic martahon winner) and his attitude is that you need to listen to our body. He has run injury free for decades so I guess he knows what he is talking about. Double check - considered shoes? Could you be an overpronator that needs more support from your shoes? Happy running.

I've started doing the same - I was just about ok, and recovering quicker from the runs, managing to do just 48hrs or less between runs. Now, since I got to week 6, I've definitely needed to take longer breaks between! Also hoping to keep up 2 runs a week!

The only additional advice I have would be to do cool down stretches to help your muscles lengthen if you don't do them already, they have really helped me and my knees. Whatever you do listen to your body and if your knees hurt gong up or own stairs then definitely rest a little longer.

Thanks guys :)

Shoes and everything is fine, My family have a history of knee caps popping out - which is what happens to mine :( Just wanted to make sure if I have too many rest days my body will go backwards

It might be worth seeing your doctor or physio. Good luck!

I used to get knee pain. I took time out to get them recovered before running again. I have kept the same shoes but I dont get knee pain now.
