So today was W5 R1. I'd had a couple of days off because it was my birthday (not that I did much for it haha) so was a bit wary about getting back into it. I knew I could run at least 5 minutes at the time as I'd done it previously - I'd cheated a bit and run for 10 minutes on my last run just to see if I could, so knew it was mind over matter, but wasn't really feeling it today.
I also cannot wait to get some new trainers - mine are very old and just not supportive anyway, but I also have flat feet and they're really doing nothing for me. I'm actually looking forward to my appointment with a podiatrist tomorrow to see what they say.
I found the first 5 minutes of my run today quite difficult - I always find the first half really hard as it's uphill and my lungs and legs are killing me towards the end of my runs. After the first 5 minutes I was feeling ok though, and I wanted to see how long it would actually take me to do 5k at this stage - with the running and the walking - to see what kind of time I'd have to beat. I therefore walked the 5 minute warm up, ran 5 minutes, walked 3, ran 5 and then turned round and ran back home as I'd reached the halfway point I'd measured out of curiosity the other day.
I then walked for the 3 minutes, ran for 5, walked 2 minutes of the cool down and then ran the rest of the way home which I would say is about 10 minutes.
At the end, I looked at MapMyRun and was astounded and so happy to see that I'd done 5.02km in 40mins 7seconds!! That means I've officially done 5k in 40minutes which even 2 weeks ago I couldn't imagine doing, let alone 5 weeks!!
I thought it would take me until the end of the programme to get to this point, so it's so motivating to know that I CAN do it! I'm very overweight and have never, ever been able to run in my life so this is a real milestone for me, and one of the achievements I'm proudest of!!
I still can't imagine being able to run the whole thing, so that's obviously my next goal, and I'm going to keep working my way through the programme (maybe adding extras in here and there), but I'm so grateful for this programme as I'd never be running without it!!
I'm genuinely so happy - if I can do it, anyone can do it, I've always been terrible at running! Onwards and upwards!!
