Just bought my first smartphone. Can people recommend some apps that might be useful and what they do? I know people mentioned some calorie counting one, and would like anything that is to do with running!

Endomondo is basic, but enough. Tracks you via GPS, reports split times as you go and uploads to the website for analysis, All for free. I really like it.

I use Endomondo too and I love it. I also use myfitnesspal for calorie counting. They are both free :) With these podcasts and myfitness pal I've lost two stone in just under 3 months.

I use mapmyrun, also free, tells you all you need to know, distance speed route etc so you can see your progress, and also how many calories you've burned..

I found mapmyrun used to lose me sometimes, I suppose it depends where you are and what your phone is up to in the background.I use endonondo now.

I use sports tracker. I think it is pretty much the same as endomondo. I use sports tracker to track my running, cycling and walking. I only use it because hubby and a couple of my friends recommended it and it's been great so far.

Thanks! I'll check them all out. I'm definitely going to get something for calorie counting... but maybe after I go out for an ice-cream later...

Ive been using Map My Run but have also found that it loses the GPS signal really easily which is very frustrating when you know that you've ran for miles in the times it's saying but tells you you've only done a short distance!! Thanks for the tip re Endomondo, gonna give that a bit of a try...... I also use My Fitness Pal to track calories (when I remember too!!)......
