No wonder my legs were tired, I completed 5k in 25m 31s, placing me 52nd out of 122 runners.

I'm not sure I can legitimately count this as a week 9 run since it was 4 1/2 minutes short!

Wow! Wow, wow, wow! What a superb achievement- congratulations, especially as you were feeling a bit low.

Pretty sure this programme is called couch to 5k, not couch to week 9 run 3 so I think that's legitimate with bells on!

I'd love to know what your secret is! How did you prepare/ What did you eat/drink beforehand, how do you keep that tempo going for the whole run? etc. I need all the tips I get can before my first one in June!

To run that speed im telling myself he was being chased by a mad axe man ;)

Now, that *would* be an incentive!

I'm afraid I can't give a sensible answer. I had a coffee in bed at about 6, got up and put on an old t-shirt and a pair or jogging bottoms, ate two pieces of toast with an espresso, then I just went and ran. I warmed up by parking the car the other side of the park and walking over, did a few jumps and stretches to loosen up. Started right at the back, not knowing what on earth the form was, and ran at a comfortable speed. I passed loads of people in the first half mile or so and few during the rest of the run. As far as I can tell I kept up a pretty consistent pace until near the end when I felt I was slowing up quite a lot - I certainly had nothing left for a sprint finish!

10k? Haven't even thought about it yet. I'm just amazed I can run 5k.

Blimey Duncan, that is a brilliant time. Which run of week 9 was it, like it matters but was it your graduation run? Maybe it is the espresso!! Well done

No - I still have one to go! And unfortunately I am not going to be able to do it until at least Wednesday night as I am away with work and busy in the evenings. Talk about an anticlimax :-)

Looking at your time you might want to start differently. I did exactly as you did, started at the back at first but found later that it worked better for me to start at the front. The reason being that the quick ones are all past you in an instant anyway and those that are slower stay behind you meaning you more naturally settle in with ones running your pace.

There are more behind you than in front at the end don't forget!

That was a great time - just in case no one else has mentioned it ;-)
