Running clothes?

I need to buy a waterproof running coat but all I can find are either luminous green or pink. Why is all womans gear pink? I like pink but I don't want to be dressed in it all the time! Does anyone know where I can get one, reasonably priced.

TK Max have a good range of sports wear and sometimes have running jackets.

Otherwise Sports Direct, amazon or ebay?

I find that the sizing in them tends to come up very small.

It depends how much you're looking to spend. I got a really cheap one from Sports Direct but it was bright pink (which I didn't really want as a lot of my other running stuff is pink and I did not look good, lol).

Then last weekend I went to Go Outdoors (they have loads of running stuff & a lot online) and got a Montane H2O running jacket in the sale there for £37, it's supposed to be the world's lightest jacket or something. Anyway it was black (hooray!) and they also had it in dark blue and some other muted colours.

Also if you buy from there, check to see if other places stock the same item as they will price match even from online shops.

Grrr just checked the website and it is now £26 on there!

I didn't even know they sold running stuff until last weekend, I actually went there for camping chairs!

Don't 'do' camping! Thats probably why I had forgotten all about them!

Lol me neither, they're for taking in the car when we go for picnics! I'd rather be in a nice comfortable hotel or a caravan at the very least ;)

On the question of women's running gear, why do they never do a size larger than 16? (And often no larger than 14) Larger women want to get fit too and they do not all want to wear baggy pants and an old T shirt. Manufacturers must be missing out on a huge market here.

I absolutely agree with you on this one. I went out all excited to buy some running gear and came home with nothing-I was sooo miserable about it. I can't understand why manufacturers think if you are a little 'wider' around the middle you must have 6 foot long legs aswell!! Rant over..

I got my running jacket from Sports Direct but had to go online to get grey rather than the luminous colours. I run first thing in the morning and that would be too scary - me in dayglo pink or yellow lol!

I got a black Karrimor running jacket from Sports Direct a few weeks ago. It was reduced to £22 from about £40 and has blue go faster stripes and handy pockets for ipod & tissues.

Haven't minded the rain as it's meant I can try it out. And very good it is too!

That sounds like the one I got. I also got a dayglo pink "gilet" but haven't ventured out in that yet !

The Sports Direct website is worth a browse - they have some great bargains on there. I bought a Karrimor men's running shirt (black) which is a comfy loose fit - much nicer to run in than a cotton t-shirt. I'm size 14 at the moment but I find even the size 16 running tops feel too "fitted" for comfort.

Yep, I got my Karrimor last week and wore it for the first time today - it's great! I'm not really a great fan of pink, particularly not the dayglo version, so this one was rigth up my street. But as a driver, I must say that I do appreciate runners/walkers/cyclists/riders who are braver than I and do wear the dayglo stuff, because they can be amazingly difficult to spot, especially at dusk. I've got a yellow dayglo mesh tabart which I can put on over whatever else I'm wearing if I feel that it's needed, but that's as good as it gets!

In the past I have bought cycling jackets etc from Aldi and Lidl, extremely good prices and good quality. They do running stuff too, keep an eye out for when they have these items in stock, it tends to be around every 4 or 5 weeks I think.

ribenaberry - we have matching jackets I think :-)

You can also zip the sleeves on to make a gilet

I also got a running vest from Lidl awhile back which is really comfy and was only about £5

Sports direct have black ones, I think they are about 12 quid. Unfortunately I got a pink one and it clashes with my hair!!!!!:(

As I'm a big girl I had to get a mens one from Sports Direct, but that meant thankfully I could get a dark blue one lol! It was a bargain at £15 too.

Christian 1 you have a good point - the gear is available for larger ladies, but it does come at a much higher price unfortunately (there's no sports shop bargains to be had!)......I got mine from a catalogue if that helps.

Intersting read, I have a sleeveless sports top from Sainsburys thats fine but have been wearing a fleece over the top.....but it soon comes off and round the waist...and not waterproof. Think its time to invest....

I had nice running trousers from sainsbury when I started, cheap, with a little pocket, sort of 3/4 length (longer if you are as short as me) and up to size 20 at least if I remember rightly.
