I've entered the XRunner Wet & Wild challenge and realised I'm going to need trainers that will cope with the mud/water any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Something old!? For me the mess would over rule any consideration on spending money on a pair of trainers that might possibly get ruined.
A couple of the guys at works did the Farmyard frolics at the weekend (quest-events.co.uk/frolics...., if they survived (!) I will find out what trainers they wore and if they have any advice- apart from "don't do it!!"
If you plan to run off-road a lot then trail running shoes are a specific type of running shoe made for the purpose. They have less cushioning so are not suitable for road running. But if this is a one-off then just something old, that you don't mind leaving in a bog.....
Having finished the major series, I just did it in my usual trainers. They got a bit muddy but a trip through the washing machine sorted that. Grip wise, probably not as good as the trail running shoes, but that added to the fun!
Old trainers at the moment then if you get the buzz get better trail runners.
Work colleague survived the Farmyard frolics and this is his advice
"You can’t do enough training – running on mud and climbing on and over things is nothing like doing a 10 miles training run on the roads. He needs to get out up the woods and as well as pounding the pavement. Gear wise, something that’s not going to rub / chaff / cause blisters – you don’t want jipple (joggers nipple!). Most of the people running yesterday wore base layers of some kind, but a lot depends on the weather. Trainers – a pair you don’t mind possibly throwing away at the end, but ones that offer good support."
