Hello everybody... and a HUGE Corner Welcome to 2025

It is so good to see you here in the corner...and if you just sit a while and take a breather, then that is just fine with me. The drinks are warm, the snacks, still festive and the fire glowing gently.

The weather here, is about to turn again and we have heavy snow forecast towards the weekend... I am not sure how much running I shall get in.

I have been sitting here and looking at some of my lovely gifts I have had this year...I have been very lucky...and it brought to mind a post I have used before and one that someone, on C25K, said I should post again...

Hopefully, some of you will have been lucky enough to have or give gifts this year, and something that you wished for maybe, something you knew someone would appreciate... and of course there are the gifts that really cannot be bought.

Time spent alone, time spent with family, time spent with friends.

These are the gifts of precious time... time we are able to spend with family, or friends... and I know my best gift this year, was having Mr OF home and safe and recovering after his operation.

So, you may guess from this, that gifts were really on my mind, when I was thinking about this post.

This is the post I wrote a while back.

*******

I have, as many others have said many times, that running, is, truly, a gift.

It is a gift and one that gives ,far, far more than it takes. It should never be taken for granted, Those forum friends who cannot run right now, know this all too well.

This particular gift has very special properties.

It has the potential if we allow it, to make a better version of ourselves, and not only that, it has the potential also, to help pass that on to others.

By sharing our runs something wonderful happens. We run, we talk, we share, we listen, the seeds are sown and everything begins to grow, branching out, further than we may ever realise.

Running is a gift of friendship. It is our friend, a friend that we can love, dislike, use and yes, sometimes abuse, but it will never give up on us. Running gives us the gift of realising our dreams, raising us above the stresses and strains of life and worry. It is a friend that cherishes us.

There may be times when this gift gets mislaid, tucked in the drawer of life. Injury, illness, or something else may means that we lose it for a while. This is where another property of this gift shows itself. It teaches us so much; about ourselves, about others, and not just in the way we run, The habits that running teaches us, can be transferred to so many other aspects of our life.

Good habits. Life changing habits. Habits that, may, just may be able to carry us through some of the dark times that we all encounter at some point in our lives.

So, we should take this gift gladly. There may be days when we think, it is not what we wanted, that we made the wrong choice. There may even be days when we think we should give it away.

No. We just need to try to take it slow and steady ( yes, I know), one day at a time, one step at a time. Weather the times of self-doubt, feel the total elation of achieving whatever goals we set for ourselves, Find joy in the victories and run right through those walls that threaten our progress.

We have to use the gift, we have no idea where it will take us, but take us it will, to wherever and however far we wish to go.

Running. The gift that keeps on giving! “

Hi Oldfloss and running friends and happy new year to you all!

As you may remember, I lost my best friend in November and the funeral was on 23rd December. It was a great shock to all of us, but we got through it together.

Throughout this time, running has been a great help to me in keeping myself together and looking after mum at the same time. My friends at my running club have rallied around and offered their help, without even being asked. The gift of friends and family are indeed priceless!

I was lucky enough to get a new pair of running shoes for Christmas, so I’ve been busy getting use to them, including at today’s rather soggy Parkrun. I’m looking forward to more running events this year, having already signed up for two so far. I’m also considering a running holiday later in the year, which I think would be helpful for me to help clear my head.

Best wishes for 2025!

🍏 A running holiday! Now there’s an idea!! Hopefully your new trainers have not been well and truly baptised! We have had so much rain! ☔️ Your Mum is fortunate to have someone so caring & glad your runs are giving you that much needed headspace. We look forward to those holiday plans in due course!

Thanks Annieapple I didn’t know such holidays existed until I saw it on Facebook! The place I’m thinking of takes care of food, drink, accommodation etc as well as run coaching, and they’ll even pick you up at the local station if required 👍

happy new year to you all.

It’s been a while since I last posted but I have been continuing to run but since August mostly on a treadmill with incline. I did try an outdoor run the other day and my joints suffered badly despite good warm up and cool down. oops.

Continuing to do 30-40 min sessions sometimes a mix up of walk and faster runs. Just ticking along and enjoying it not yet ready to set new goals

mixing things up with strength training and swimming. All is good for now.

wishing you all the best for the new year

Kind regards to all

Good to see you here... and trying things out is a good plan... finding what is right for you! Mixing it up is sometimes what you need, and then you may settle into a routine.

Very well done to you !

Happy New Year to you all! Just feeling New Year Gratitude, so bear with the long post!

I graduated from C25K in 2020🎉 - I started with my teenage daughter during lockdown, and even ran with my husband on our Lake District holidays ❤️.

Then the running and gym-going dropped off following my mum’s death, menopause onset, empty nesting and other big stresses.

Couldn’t get past menopause symptoms even with HRT and trying to eat well etc, so I was gifted a gym membership, at a gym I actually enjoy going to, last year (at my request!), and have slowly built back up to week 7/8 over a year!

I managed a 30 min seaside run this Christmas Eve with my son (who has recently discovered running after refusing to do any cardio for ages!), and am very pleased with myself (and him)!!

I am so grateful for the C25K podcast (and Laura!) for helping me to get running.

I was always sporty when I was younger, and then a gym bunny after I had kids, but I always loved the idea of being able to run anywhere if you’ve got your trainers with you.

C25K has helped running become a sustainable and manageable part of my fitness routine. So thank you thank you thank you!! 🎉😎💪🏃‍♀️
