Another night in the gym, with an added bonus that it was virtually deserted so no problem parking and plenty of free machines.
Slightly different approach tonight and fell back on the slow and steady mantra. So rather than stepping it up each lap it's a 7.2k run. Ease through the first 1k and it seems hard work tonight, but stick with it and power on. Before I know it we're at 3k, surely I can do 3.5?
Watching the distance mount up and that little voice is saying "stop, give up, start walking" so I tell it to shut up, we're not there yet.
3.5k and time to walk, just 500m, but enough to lower the heart rate. 4k comes round, back up to 7.2k and let's see how far we can go.. yes that's it, the 5k arrives and we go into cool down.
I'm shattered, but I'm counting it as a 4.5 run, i haven't run that far in a single session since I was at school a good few decades ago. Over the next few weeks we can slowly reduce that 500m walk in the middle, and then roll on spring and the lighter mornings so we can get outdoors where it's a bit cooler!
