Hi All,
TL;DR: Chiropodist/podiatrist diagnosed me with a condition which means I need specialist insoles.
Hope you are well & Happy New Year!
I haven't been for a run in a while, I was getting shin splints initially, to which I kindly received support and advice from you lovely people. I decided to rest and train at the gym.
I ended up switching to pressups for the November Challenge of 100 a day.
Now I'm itching for a run!
I've been having really bad pain in my feet due to corns, so I went to a Chiropodist. He removed them, checked my natural feet positioning and advised that I have a rare condition called forefoot varus, basically structurally my foot rolls inwards too much. Makes perfect sense as my show soles always had greater wear on the outside. This leads to knee, hip and back pain when standing too long, wish I had gone to this gentleman when I was a kid! He advised that as I'm too old now and the only way to resolve this is to get custom insoles with a wedge. He unfortunately doesn't sell them and the prices are extortionate online, so I'm going to buy the parts to make them myself before going with the former option.
Once I've got my soles, I'll start walking and may try slowly running again.
Thought I'd share this info with you all in case you also get knee pain etc, and the cause isn't quite clear. This is my experience. So of course, you should speak to a professional first.
Interested to know whether any of you have this same condition and if so, how you've managed it.
Kind regards,
