6:1… again… errors… again…

Thus far on C25K The Return, I have been running covertly, under the cover of darkness. Despite (wanting to give) the appearance of being down with being a slow runner, I do find myself feeling slightly ridiculous at times. I have parodied my running style to friends and watched them laugh, laughing too, with an inward wince. There is something about donning all the gear, the Lycra, the Garmin, the shoes, the AfterShokz, etc, etc… and then breaking into a… plod, that I haven’t quite resolved.

However, this morning I rolled out of bed and went for a morning run. It’s New Years Eve tonight and I’m being sociable, so the night run isn’t an option. And maybe it’s been helpful posting here again, and realising there are many, many, plodders, out there.

First time round, I knew that 6:1 could be tricksy. This time round, I definitely knew. And guess what? I went too fast. Let’s get some perspective - my knees prevent me from actually going fast, but I was trotting rather than plodding, and I was trotting hard. It was harder going than the 20m run. I reread my old post (and it was 5 years ago, not 3, where does the time go?!) and guess what? I went too fast.

They say the definition of stupidity is repeating the same thing and expecting a different outcome. I prefer to reflect on this differently. I’m really grateful to be able to trot. And for the lessons that running gives.

Happy New Years peeps!

I thought it was the definition of madness... But it is a reflection of your feel good vibes!

You're going great ktsok 🐱👍

Ah yes - the definition of insanity! Is that kinder/better than stupidity, I wonder… 🤔

If it helps mine are slower and in daylight!!! I have to go really slow to keep my hr in the right zone 🙃

There is a post cogitating about HR zones… seriously, I’m in zone 3 on a brisk walk, zone 4 in a slow jog. I tried the HR training method and never broke out of a medium walking pace. So I applaud your baseline fitness level!

Neither insanity nor stupidity ktsok; simple forgetfulness. Enjoy your runs; nobody notices pace…they just wish they could do the same. 🙂

Morning and congratulations on your efforts

I was once a covert plodder (with my hand on my speed dial to call for help in case of sudden chest pain/collapse) until I fell over a hidden tree root in the dark and realised this was far more dangerous than the humiliation of being a “all the gear but no idea”

I’ve now been trotting around in the daylight for the last 2 years and couldn’t care less. Just occasionally I pass a fellow plodder but I’m usually the one overtaken but who cares. I’m out there doing my best, fitter than I’ve ever been and that’s all that matters. Enjoy yourself, life’s short (the alternative worse) and nobody wants to hear your split time (just watch their eyes glaze over)🤣
