I have just opened the ap again after 3 years. I was all ready to start then and something happened and I never got round to it. (Lockdown worries???!)
I'm now 3 years older - 60 - I never seem to be able to stick at anything excercise wise. I've not much energy and suffer depression owing to a stressful life in a lovely neurodiverse family, where I've put myself last for years - but have just started to be able to put up strong boundaries and have time to rest - maybe a bit too much!
I have so much going on emotionally and educationally and voluntarily - but not physically and I am scared it will be a rapid downhill spiral for me if I don't start exercising.
My DNA says I have the capability to run! (Although I absolutely hated it at school or treadmill).
But more than any of this, I have been VERY motivated by a certain celebrity recently in the media beginning with F who has started running and she looks AMAZING at 65!

Oh so pleased you are back and motivated to take up C25K again!! You have difficult circumstances so this YOU time will be very special… it may be difficult to get out the door the first morning but here are some hints that helped me
Put your gear out the night before so you don’t have to think about it in the morning. When you wake up … get it on & tell yourself it’s not much more than a walk in the fresh morning air!! Follow 1:1 on the App with your music & enjoy time out alone.
Take it real slow & then post and tell us how it went! We will be there for you!
Read up all the pinned posts if you haven’t already!
So many of us have done the same-had great intentions to get started and not quite got there. It must be the right time for you now. ❤️
There’s a brilliant little guide to the programme here with lots of helpful hints and tips. Well worth a read. Most important is keeping it slow and steady at a pace where you can talk in full sentences without gasping. Most of us go too fast! Recovery days between runs are absolutely essential too.
Hahaha - absolutely know the feeling - I had downloaded the app, listened to the coaches and chosen Sarah and that was it - also for about 3 years. I'm not far behind you in age, and not far ahead in weeks completed really - but I started on May 1st and am now in my second graduate week. You can definitely do it and it will be great YOU time and something that is within your control and will give you a great sense of achievement as well as making you fitter. There is so much support here too - so keep posting! (Get your gait assessed and invest in some shoes that are right for the way you move - it will make a huge difference and help prevent injury). GOOD LUCK
Hi @farsouthwest! Thankyou so very much for your encouragement ... and so very well done to you! You must feel deservedly proud of yourself after a 'practise start' a few years ago which - like me too - didn't quite happen! Hi five to us for that after a few years passing we still had the motivation!
I'm hoping it will take some of the negative self talk away from me as I become happier with myself for finally meeting each step along the way with ... yes, as you say, ME time ♡
How do I get my gait assessed please? It sounds like the right thing to do 😊
Gosh - so sorry I missed this! Thank you - and yes - High Five to us! I just went to a local sports shop. The man was very encouraging and didn't make me feel foolish (well - no more foolish than I'd felt anyway)! They need to see and video you on a treadmill - I had to roll my jeans up to knee height and take my shoes and socks off. They look at how you stand and move and video you and then recommend the best type of shoes that will help you compensate for any issues you might have - definitely worth doing!
No worries at all farsouthwest ! 🙂 That's great of you to explain the gait assessment ... I've got some decent Under Armour sports trainers I will use for now; they feel very comfi with their socks - but once I hopefully (🤞!) start for real I will definitely go to a sports shop to get it done. Thankyou 👍😊
It was lockdown which made me actually use the app which had been sitting on my phone, unloved, since its launch.
I'd decided on Sarah Millican for my first attempt. She got me through the first weeks, but there were a few times I had to stop and re-start. Not her fault, but I did get the feeling that she was just reading through the script.
I chose Jo Wiley for what proved to be the successful attempt and her attitude and obvious enthusiasm clicked.
Thankyou for your story nowster ... All the hints taken on board ... I have looked at the options and chosen Sarah in the hope that a bit of humour is thrown in - but it's encouraging to no that Jo gave you the help you needed to push you through ... Will bare that in mind ☺️👍🤞
Just found this post and I’m looking forward to hearing how you get on, not meaning that in any pressure sort of way but the C25k programme really does work to get one continuous running for 30mins if you are able follow the stages, slowly!
Even if you find you redo a run or two or you can’t commit to the exact spacing -it will be there to take you to the next stage when you are ready. (Or even if you don’t feel quite ready but go with it and see what happens next, you may surprise yourself!)
