Hi everyone, I’ve recently started C25K for the third time, am in week 4 so far so good. Previously I managed to pick up a hip strain injury which stopped me running. I was gutted at the time but back to try again after two years. I’m hoping this time will be different as I’m now 4 stone lighter so hopefully less strain on the joints. I haven’t been great at pre-run stretches, can anyone suggest a few essentials? Plus, are dynamic stretches the best thing pre-run? Thanks

Welcome back! It’s lovely to have you back here, although sympathies with the hip strain. It’s rubbish when something like that knocks you off course. Congratulations on your amazing weight loss-what an achievement!
I had problems with my hips about a month ago and I’m slowly building back up. The physio I’ve been working with has been brilliant. As well as stretching, really think about doing some strength work which will help your resistance to another injury.
You’re right that dynamic stretches are best before running. There’s a good article linked in the program guide with some suggestions…

My opinion on pre run stretches? The best ones to do are basically any that you can remember to do! I usually try to do some high knees, walking lunges, squats, side to side lunges, butt kicks etc during my warm up walk.
Really good luck to you. It will be great to hear how you’re getting on!
There are some in the discover section of C25K pre exercise stretches and post stretches!
