Hello everyone.

Here we are again and unbelievably, Winterval is upon us!

It is a really good job we are all here... and so lucky that we are together.

It is cosy inside, the flames flicker, the lights on the tree twinkle and the curtains are pulled tight against the rain.

Many of you are carrying on wonderfully, despite the icy cold weather and then the recent mild spell; here now we have rain and fog!

This is an odd time, so much going on, For many a time of joy, but for others not.

Here in our running family, we support each other whatever. And I know I have felt so, so cared for when I mentioned yesterday, that I had Covid. An early present... one which Mr OF got yesterday! So, no running for me for a while... and family get together postponed.

But, as I have read on here, so many of you are running and are well and are nearing the graduation podium. But if you have not got the time, the weather is against you?

We have chatted about this so many times here in the corner.

Because of being on the C25K plan or just because you love your run, you may really want to keep everything going...not always easy !

Well we have said it before; we acknowledge the facts, we accept, then we adapt!

OK; we know runs may not happen, we accept you really may not be able to stick to any plans you have! But any runs you are able to manage, are going to be a bonus ! Many folk will still be reclining on the couch whilst you get out there:)

Time to adapt!

* Some runs may need to be short, maybe not even the runs planned for whatever week you are on... run anyway!

Think of it as a bit of time for yourself... just a ten minute, “ I'm going around the block while you Read to little one, wash up, peel the taties” ! Time to breathe:)

* Don't think about it , if there is a chance.. take it ...it is your happy holiday too?

*If you do get out.. use the time, to up things a tad, ( sensibly), however short, to focus on your form; your landing, your ankles, your face... are you relaxed, are you breathing happily, are you smiling ?

* If you cannot do the run you planned, make it short and fun... how many houses with Christmas trees in the window, how many dog walkers, how many folk with brand new trainers out there!!!

* Don't use the runs to try to burn off any of the extra yummy calories you may have been lucky enough to eat, but know it will fuel a lovely little run!

See, all is not lost. You may find the time and you may get a run in...

Maybe you could share any ideas or plans that you have got tucked away for the next few days?

And if you have accepted that there really is no way, because of work, visitors, a house full of friends and family... then the runs as we all know will WAIT.

I am banking on it !!

So come on, grab your cushion...get closer to the fire and let us know what is happening!

The picture is of the very first painting I did when I joined my water-colour class... Mule sheep.. wondering where all the runners are:) !

Love, love, LOVE the sheep! Well, your post is quite timely. Where I live we are in the midst of some arctic blizzard for the next three days. Luckily, son and I got a run in yesterday before the 12 to 18 inches total of snow due over the next two days. I plan to do my indoor run tomorrow--front hallway, kitchen, dining room, back hall--and back. I don't plan to be deterred by the arctic blast. It will be Stepping Stones for me--at least that's my plan. I hope you are feeling better, Oldfloss, and am sorry you got hit with that nasty covid.

Hello....

Good to know you are okay... I was going to message you later today!

The sheep are so funny... we had a photo to study and luckily we had some mule sheep near us so I was able to go and see firsthand what they were like!

I am so glad that you got out and hope you are all prepared for what may come. I love the idea and image of you moving around the house and up stairs etc. Stepping Stones sounds good !

Yes.. it is a sneaky thing this Covid. 6 days in... and I feel my symptons have been better than most. Poor MR OF who tested positive on Thursday is in the sneezing and coughing stage !

Do take care my friend and do stay safe and warm... !

Well, now, your sheep sent me on a google search for images of mule sheep and I learned a lot. I didn't know there was such a thing as mule sheep and didn't know different kinds of sheep come in different colors! I wound up watching a trailer about border collies and it was wonderful! Of course, I love the looks of border collies; Molly is somehow related, as she looks similar and I think also behaves somewhat similarly (high energy, seems to have the herder in her, etc.) I did my "house" run just now and did a few extra minutes because I had to stop for a Molly accident and for Hubby's meal, but for a house run, it was great.

I hope your Christmas Eve and Christmas are full of peace and good cheer.

Hello Oldfloss how lovely of you to take the time to snuggle us all together. This place where we meet our running family and rest and chat is very special,

Hoping you soon shake COVID off and are able to get out to run, there is no hurry as these dark cold days pass

Wishing you and Mr OF love peace and happiness, Christmas wishes too

A photo from our light walk with children and grandchildren the other night, our world a globe in the sky I stood and imagined runners spanning the globe.

A heartfelt thank you for your warmth and encouragement during this last year xx

That is so beautiful!

Thank you so much. How lovely to have you snuggled here in the corner and how lucky am I to be able to share your friendship x

That light walk seems to have been truly beautiful. I know that you are getting walks and runs in when you are able, but I know also, how really busy you are at work.

We do what we can and when we cannot, we pop in here, and we chat and share and plan.. I am feeling a tad down when I think that the family should have been altogether, but, we are lucky... we can , like the runs, wait, and know that when it all happens, it will be all the sweeter.

Thank you x

COVID is a really horrible virus, just when we think the worst is over up it pops to scupper our plans, we have staff off with it and people not able to see their families over Christmas because if it once again, I'm not surprised you are a tad down, rest well and look forward to good health in the new year xx

Hi Oldfloss, I'm sorry to hear that your Christmas plans have been disrupted. Hope the covid bug proves to be mild and that you'll soon be back on your feet. And then hopefully you can find time in the New Year to get together with family.

The cold weather and Christmas prep led to be not running for a couple of weeks. I'll restart in the New Year, I said to myself. And then at the beginning of this week, I spontaneously went for a run, and it felt good. Same on Thursday.

So today will involve last minute food shopping, food prep, clearing the dining room which had some impromptu DIY done by husband last night (we must at least be able to SEE the table before sitting down to eat!), cat sitting for a friend, Christmas music making with family....and A RUN...

Thank you for all your encouraging words on this forum and best wishes to you and your family.

Thank you, we will get together at some point!!

Lovely to see you here too! You seem to be getting sorted beautifully!... Getting organised... organising husband and the friend's cat...and a RUN. That sounds just wonderful! Do enjoy your festivities.. the family music making sounds delightful! I shall miss our family sing song around the piano ..but.. next weekend hopefully!

Enjoy!

I'm in - taking a fluffy red cushion near the fire to escape the holiday mayhem

- not running at the moment as upended holiday plans due to transport chaos, teenagers back home for the holidays and a broken washing machine have filled up my existence. Trying to keep on qi gonging at least (skipping rope put aside for now - as feared it is a hazard to the decorations).

Plan to start again at week 5 in the New Year when it all calms down, but pleased to share a cosy space and feel inspired by everyone else.

Happy Christmas and thank you for all the positive energy 😁

Oh that is a very comfy one!!! Lovely to see you here.

Yes, a great place to sit and relax for a while. Did I say Relax!!!! Children home, broken washing machine... transport strikes... eekkkk!

You are going to need all the qi gong you can get!!!

So sensible to put everything on hold... just use the time to try to stay calm and enjoy every bit of being together. We cannot wait to get together with our family , maybe next weekend if we are all negative and feeling better!

The runs next year will be all the sweeter and there will be a secret scent of the Spring to follow, in the air, to give them added joy!

Winterval wishes for you x

Thank you Oldfloss - hope your recovery goes smoothly and get to see your family soon😊.

I've found that mulled wine holds all the answers to relaxation (at least until it runs out then I'm back to Qigong😂) but yes, I'm looking forward to running into Springtime 🌻🥀
