Hi everyone! This is my first post here. I’ve decided to begin couch to 5k as a way to improve my health and in order to take part in some 5k races I’ve always wanted to do (and maybe longer in the future - but let’s not be too hopeful yet!!).

I completed my first run yesterday and managed it with some ease but I’ve seen on here it’s good to stick with the program to help your legs adjust to this. I’m a relatively active student (although since I’ve been home I’ve not been doing much) so I didn’t think of the first week being too much of a challenge. However, today my calf muscles have been quite tight and stretching them only really alleviated the tension for a little while.

Quite frustrating but it’s not painful so I’m hoping I can still do my run tomorrow and maybe pay more attention to stretching before and after. What do you guys think?

Thanks!

Congratulations to you phlobbs1912 on completing run 1 of week 1 of C25K, sorry about your injury, take a extra day off running before running run 2 of week 1.You can repeat any runs or week's if you wish to, drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration, no running on consecutive days as that could cause a injury, good luck I wish you luck for your running journey with C25K.

Welcome to the forum and the program and well done for making a start 👍Have you read the program guide ?

If not, then please do !

healthunlocked.com/couchto5....

It's packed with useful information to help you through the program .

So with the stretches, make sure if you do the pre run stretches that they are the 'Dynamic' ones .

And then 'Static' stretches for after the runs , don't mix then up !!

This is of course included in the program guide .

Enjoy the journey!

Welcome to the fun world of C25K - once you’re bitten by the bug, there’s no going back 😄

Definitely do keep with the plan and don’t push in ahead too quickly even if it feels as though you could. There’s nothing to gain by trying to speed through it (well, other than an injury!) and a lot to lose.

Keep coming back here too, for encouragement and to share your journey. We love to hear about other peoples runs!

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

Slow and steady progress gives the most sustainable way forward, keeping injury risk minimal, so stick to the plan.

A slow pace is also beneficial. Counterintuitively, it is easy conversational pace running that builds your stamina and endurance, not fast running.

Keep posting and we will keep you running.

Enjoy your journey.
