just about to start w4 and so far I’m just about getting through the weeks but when I’m near the end of each run my legs hurt…. But on the plus side the recovery after a run is getting quicker,

Welcome to the forums, and well done taking down the first third of the plan.

Recover time reducing says your fitness is climbing quickly… that’s a great sign.

How’s your hydration? Working muscles use a lot of water and dehydration commonly causes some muscle pains, especially in the calves.

Thanks for the advice definitely could be a hydration issue,

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5....

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

Thank you that’s great advice I hadn’t considered the hydration,

Stretching immediately after every run, nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/h... while muscles are still warm and supple, pulls out contractions, avoiding carrying tensions into the next run and also improves recovery by improving blood flow, as recommended in the guide to the plan.

Many people do not hold their stretches for long enough or put enough effort in. Hold post run stretches for 30 seconds and make sure the pull is strong enough to be on the verge of discomfort.

That’s good advice, again something that I hadn’t considered, thank you

Hi

Take care with your calf stretches'.

A pulled calf muscle can take a long time to heal.

Err on the safes side.

I am slow, pacing has definitely been an issue in the past so honestly I’m taking it so slow but got it done…. And run 1 of w4 this afternoon, definitely a hydration issue with the calf pain,

What sort of pace do you do to get it done, well done very impressed how did you tackle week 3 after week 4 as twice the time running and once again well done when you doing run w4r2

The pace is just above the walking pace to be honest, just keeping it a light jog going to attempt r2w4 Sunday.
