Cramps in calves

Hi I’m currently on W4R3 and have just started to get cramps in my calves while I’m running. Any suggestions as to what I can do to relieve this. I run pretty slow as it is and these cramps are reducing me to a quick walking pass. I stretch out before and after but it’s not helping. Any advice please x x

Roll and roll more... and if the pain persists, please get it checked out...by a sports Physio... after too many weeks building back up after being on the IC with a calf tear, believe me, it is important:)

Thanks for replying so quickly. Can you clarify what you mean by roll and roll more. Cheers

Use a foam roller, or a massage stick.. I have both, but since my calf injury I use the massage stick more... it really unknots muscles...

You might like to try a pair of calf compression sleeves. My brother, who is an habitual marathon runner, recommended them to me. I’ve just ordered a pair myself to try out.

Hi BrianUK, bought a pair of calf compression sleeves and used them for the first time today. Really worked! Thanks for recommendation.

Hi Bleadon, also make sure you are fully hydrated, your muscles need water to work efficiently.

Stretch after your run when your muscles are warm, streching cold muscles is not good. You can do Dynamic stretching beforehand I believe...

Hope it settles, do as Oldfloss suggests she is very experienced. 😊x

Thanks Jan, I do the 5 min warm up before I run and stretch out after. I probably don’t drink much before I run so that’s a good tip.

You need to drink plenty of fluids on your non running days, and water after your run. Not too much just before...for obvious reasons😆xx
