Gym wear

Sorry a tad unrelated but I’m struggling to find answers - where does everyone find running gear or what do they wear? I’m struggling as my stuff seems to fall down or roll down halfway round and it’s very frustrating. Can’t do loose shorts as they ride up the thighs lol

Go to a specialist sports shop for your running gear, at that shop you may also get a gait analysis and anything else you wish to wear while outside running.

For shoes, a specialist running shop. Not for clothes though - most of my running wear is from Lidl or Decathlon. I'm not fussed about looking fashionable and I find the technical performance, quality, durability and price very good indeed. For more choice of sizes, styles and colours there are loads of other possibilities, unless you live in rural France, as I do!

My kit is a mixture of Lidl, Aldi, seconds of bigger brands off eBay, a few special offers from Amazon (beware there's a lot of expensive low quality stuff there), and latterly Decathlon.

The Decathlon kit items were often more expensive (but not as expensive as equivalents from big brand names), but they've had by far the most use in the last year or so.

Be careful with Decathlon, recently bought t shirts and shorts which I thought were great value until they got washed and dried and came out half the size.....shudda read the label!

Not had that happen! I wash all my kit at 30°C on a cotton cycle. I do also separate bright colours from the black items, especially when they're new.

I use various length sports leggings but always with a tie waste to prevent them from slipping. M&S "Go move" range work for me . ( their sports bras to-but I am not blessed with much to put in them!). Tops wise anything goes so long as it's thin and short-sleeved for me.

The best sports leggings I have came from Tu at Sainsburys. They are the only leggings I have that I don't have to constantly adjust when exercising and they only cost £12. I have other branded leggings that cost a lot more and drive me mad!

Same here. I've got expensive running leggins but my sports wear leggins from New Look have out performed the others. I've had them for 2 years and they are just as stretchy, comfortable, don't move up or down! and still look fresh. It's best to shop around and not assume dearer is better. Good luck.

The comments above probably cover where to go, my only input would be to be vary wary of the 'very cheap' street market leggings (the one size fits all type).

During our groups early C25K days one of our running group had an embarrassing incident with a pair she bought from the market. Running in them was OK, it was the stretching we did after that proved just a bit to much for them.

:) :) :)

There are so many retailers that really you pays your money and you takes your choice. I like clothes and personally I would prefer to spend more on a fewer, quality items. My favourite brand is Sweaty Betty and they have a sale on at the moment. I have found some great bargains in TK Maxx too.I would say try stuff on the first time you buy a particular brand. In leggings, I look for a draw string at the waist, a side pocket for my phone and a zipped pocket at the back for tissues, keys etc. I like tee-shirts that are loose and long enough to feel comfortable and modest. In shorts I like all in one lycra undershorts with loose shorts on top.

My favourite pants and bras are from Runderwear and proper running socks are a must in my view.

Shoes of course, are where you should definitely invest. You don't have to buy all the gear at once of course and birthdays and Christmas are so much easier when you are a runner!

I'm now someone who appreciates birthday and Christmas gifts of socks (especially if they're Injinji).

I know. I say 'get me running socks'. They say 'No, that's too boring' and I say 'PLEASE get me running socks' 👍

I arrived here as a Nike devotee… now I get the same gear with a different logo at much cheaper prices at Decathlon. It hasn’t saved me any money… but I have a LOT more kit 🤣

Hi, my absolute favourite legs to wear for running are basic George @asda £12 the ultimate black leggings. They do not budge ! I’ve tried so many - all ranging in prices. For colourful ones I’m a tikiboo fan. Old style not the double seam pocket. !

Not unrelated, anything running related goes here!I think it's very individual, but if you go for high waisted leggings they're less likely to fall down, because they sit on top of your hips. A good running bra is an absolute must, in fact JCB strength if you have much in the way of boobs!

Good luck

Yup jcb strength required here!! Going to steal your expression as it’s brought an absolute chuckle on.

When on sale, I treat myself to 'Lucy Lockets Loves' activewear leggings. Family run business in Sheffield. The range of lengths, patterns and sizes is the best I've seen and they are so comfy, never once had them roll down and I have a tummy that likes to fold everything down :-) They also have a really supportive online community. Might be worth a look.

Decathlon trail running bottoms and shorts are great for storage compartments and have good zips. Great for my oversized phone and car keys.

I wear Next high waisted black running leggings and they don't roll down. Would recommend!

I love Rainbow and Sprinkles, which I saw recommended on here. They come with great patterns (Highland Cows and cats are my favourites), have waist ties, choice of waist or leg pockets and sit really well. And make people smile 😁

Big fan of M&S running gear. T-shirts I have generally gained from events and sales at Mountain Warehouse in addition. Trainers I always go to my local independent sports shop. They looked after me when I was super clueless and solved a long standing hip issue in the process. Never compromise on trainers but the rest is always bargain sale purchases.
