Hurt my lower back

I hurt my lower back/hip 9 days ago while running on the treadmill. Any suggestions what it might be or how long it will take to heal?

Hi, It would be almost impossible for anyone here to diagnose the problem as we are not medically trained

But do not run if you are in pain .

Take a couple of days rest but if there is no improvement then getting advice from a professional would be advisable.

Hurt my lower back recently. Getting off the floor would you believe. I was out of action for 2 weeks. Just walked to keep moving.

Hi I’ve got similar problem but can’t walk at moment I am suffering from Piriformis syndrome (try Googling it) my physiotherapist gave two exercising. Don’t run but don’t sit or stand for long . Hope this helps xx

I would take a few days off running but seek the advice of a physio if it continues. I wonder if some core strengthening might help. I very occasionally get a bit of lower backache if I'm not using my glute (bum) muscles enough when I run. Good luck

Hi, thanks. It’s a nuisance but going to try and strengthen core as you’ve suggested.

Did you hurt your back while running or did it hurt after you had been running?

Lower back pain is quite common for new runners and if it is not caused by a specific injury then it may respond to core strength exercises.

Runners need a solid core and it can easily be strengthened by doing planks and bridges, amongst other things. If the latter seems to be your case, then pop over to the Strength and Flex forum for some specific advice

If you actually damaged it then follow the PRICE principles linked to in the guide to the plan along with a link to the NHS Sports injuries page.
