Just a quick background on my fitness activity so far - I have been completing the 10000 steps for the last 12 days, but yesterday I took on the Week 1 - Run 1, and this morning I was just slightly tight/ache in the groin/thigh areas. Unsure if it was just down to use of muscle areas that was not overworked in the past? I once again done my 10000 steps - result being the ache is probably a fraction more persistent. I hope someone could please advise me, should I carry on with my planned run 2 tomorrow or delay by one day & if so, should I continue to do the 10000 steps or go for a complete rest day?

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.
If this is a major increase in your exercise regime, then be cautious. Generally the rest day is from high impact exercise and walking is not considered high impact, so normally we would recommend that walking is fine on your rest days.
I would certainly recommend that you do the post run static stretches after exercising as that will ease aches and aid recovery.
Many thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Really pleased with your feedback, so informative and clearly set out how I can go forward. So, refreshing to read a post and think to yourself " that makes perfect sense to me".
Welcome and well done on starting the program!I remember week 1 run 1 very well .
I ached like mad the next day, mainly my Quads !
I had my rest day then even on the morning of my 2nd run I was not sure if I would do it .
I had ice packs on the night before then a hot bath in the morning .
What I hadn't done for my first run was the Dynamic warm up excercises before running, and I also don't think I spent long enough on the after run stretches.
From the 2nd run I made sure I did both these things and still do now .
Totally agree but for near on 38 years just sat on my posterior doing nothing. Now the Doc has had a word to say lifestyle changes needed, I felt walking was my option as I NEVER EVER thought about running yet 12 days of walking, I now feel even at 114kgs I'm up for the challenge. Many thanks for the post, it really is appreciated. Little things like this surge me on.
It's not so much the steps themselves, but being active in some way for at least half an hour a day, that's important.
I sat on my backside for about 30 years, smoking and eating take-aways and for some reason had a heart attack.
As part of my recovery I began doing 10,000 steps a day so well done you 👏.
I done this for about a month and then found C25k. Having never ran before I was extremely dubious but in a moment of "madness" took that first step.
Looking back over the last 9 months it has completely changed my life and the post run sense of achievement is just fantastic. I can say without doubt, it was the best decision I have ever made. 👍
As you carry on you will find your wardrobe contents changing colours to become bright - and very bright 🤣🤣
