Hi everyone!

I'm on week 1 and have done 2 runs so far and I've noticed that my muscles don't have that achey feeling the day after each run... does this mean I'm not pushing myself enough? I'm 23 and about half a stone overweight just want to lose a bit of weight and improve my fitness

No, aching muscles are not an indicator of progress. We tend to think 'no pain, no gain' but it doesn't work like that. If your muscles are not aching post run, be happy. It means you can focus on building your cardio engine without the hassle of soreness.

Thanks for your help! I'm new to cardio so I was unaware of this

Not necessarily. I’m on week 2 and beginning to get a decent pace at the final interval now for the first time. I don’t feel achy the day after but I’m definitely doing enough on each run as out of breath and in need of a shower. I found that as long as I completed each interval and felt out of breath I had pushed myself enough. If you push yourself too much then you won’t be able to sustain it when you’re running longer. Your body will get used to it and increased fitness in general will gradually mean that you won’t feel it so much the next day. Hope this makes sense. Good luck!

Hi Yma1608, welcome and well done getting started on this amazing program. Lucky you with no muscle aches - what it is to be young! Enjoy it! 😀

You need to be building up your running legs and cardio gently and finding a comfortable pace, not overpushing yourself. If you are using the podcast or app with Laura‘s voice, later in the program she will tell you sections at the end of the run when you can push the pace a little if you have something left “in the tank”. 😄

If you are using one of the other C25K trainers they may well say the same thing. I don’t know, because I’ve only listened to Laura! 😃

Hi Yma, no that's great news as Rignold says...

Carry on working through the program, you are going to love it!

Running will tone your body, you may not notice much change until you are further into the plan though, but will definitely feel the benefit straight away...
