105 and still running π³
Thatβs amazing π€©. What a character. Gives us all a bit of hope Ian π.
Sad that she's apparently unhappy with her performance, despite setting a world record. How to ruin a running experience by focusing on a number.
Not so sure it ruined it !
Sorry, I should've made it clear that's my personal reaction.
Her achievement is fantastic, no question.
What I struggle with is that she's got to age 105 and she still thinks she has to beat herself up because her world record wasn't as quick as the time she'd set herself. For me, that sucks the joy out of it and is ungracious to those who congratulated her.
I disagree with you. You are seeing her reaction through your own prism of what running means to you. HER joy comes from performance, not the mere fact of being able to continue to run at 105, and if that's HER thing then I think that's wonderful - good on her!
There's nothing wrong with being competitive with yourself and setting goals.
As runners we're not all motivated by the same thing . Running isn't necessarily about e.g. being outdoors and communing with nature, losing weight, improving your 5k time, doing it as dedication for someone you've lost, raising money for charity. It's none AND all of those things - it's whatever you want it to be.
Wow! Amazing!!!
